Abstract

This article examines the state of education in Indonesia in 2023, focusing on both the challenges and opportunities facing the system. Education in Indonesia has undergone significant transformation over the past decade, but several barriers remain, such as disparities in access, quality, and infrastructure between urban and rural areas. Despite these challenges, recent reforms and the increased use of technology have provided promising avenues for improvement. The study analyzes the national education policies, including the impact of the Merdeka Curriculum, and evaluates the role of digital learning platforms in addressing the educational needs of Indonesia’s vast population. Additionally, the article highlights key issues such as teacher training, student engagement, and education for sustainable development. By examining both the progress made and areas requiring further attention, this paper offers a comprehensive view of the Indonesian educational system in 2023. The findings suggest that while substantial improvements have been made, systemic inequities and the rapid pace of technological integration pose both challenges and opportunities for educators, policymakers, and students alike.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the forms of adaptation of local religious traditions in the face of globalisation and its impact on the cultural and religious identity of the community. Using a literature review method, this study analyses various literature discussing the dynamics of change, influencing factors, and strategies for preserving religious traditions amid the challenges of modernisation and globalisation. The results of the study indicate that the adaptation of local religious traditions is carried out through ritual modifications, the use of digital technology, innovations in presentation, and the integration of more universal religious values. This adaptation process is influenced by factors such as education, media, cultural interaction, the role of the younger generation, and government policy support. Although there is a risk of shifting meanings and authenticity of traditions, adaptation carried out wisely and participatively has proven to be able to preserve traditions while strengthening the cultural and spiritual identity of the community. This study recommends the importance of cross-sector collaboration and the involvement of the younger generation in efforts to preserve local religious traditions so that they remain relevant and contribute positively in the era of globalisation.

Abstract

Teaching English as a second language (ESL) to young learners presents a unique set of challenges and requires the use of effective and innovative strategies. Short attention spans, differences in learning pace and style, and the need to make learning relevant and engaging for children, are some of the key barriers faced by educators. Through this study, we explore various methods and approaches to overcome these challenges, including the use of props, games and other interactive activities that support visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. The study also highlights the importance of differentiating teaching and adapting to each child's specific needs to maximise learning effectiveness. In addition, the establishment of a positive and supportive classroom environment, as well as classroom behaviour management, were seen as important factors in facilitating successful language learning. The conclusion of this study provides insights into effective strategies in educating young learners in ESL, demonstrating the importance of teaching approaches that are creative, flexible and responsive to individual needs.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of the principles of social justice and equality in education through a literature review of efforts to eliminate discrimination and build mutual respect in schools. This study uses a literature study method with a descriptive qualitative approach, analysing various sources such as scientific journals, books, research reports and education policy documents. The results show that although various forms of discrimination - such as economic, gender, racial and against students with special needs - are still found in the school environment, concrete efforts have been made to overcome them. These efforts include teacher training, inclusive curriculum development, the implementation of anti-discrimination policies, and the involvement of parents and communities in building a culture of mutual respect. By consistently applying the principles of social justice and equality, schools can become an inclusive, fair and harmonious environment, and form a generation that is tolerant and respectful of differences.

Abstract

The role of ulama in the formation of criminal policy in Indonesia is a form of integration of religious values with the national legal system. As religious authorities, ulama have the responsibility to convey views based on the principles of justice, protection of victims, guidance of criminals, and crime prevention in line with spiritual approaches. Through their input to policymakers, ulama contribute to creating harmony between positive law and religious law. This approach aims to make criminal policy more acceptable to society and effective in combating crime. However, challenges arise in accommodating Indonesia's pluralistic socio-cultural diversity, which requires synergy between ulama, government and legal experts to create policies that are just, inclusive and in line with universal values. This study emphasises the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for a legal system that is responsive to the aspirations of society.

Abstract

Changes in ethical norms in social relationships on social media platforms are an inevitable phenomenon in the digital age. Social media has changed the patterns of communication and interaction within society, providing ease in sharing information but also presenting new challenges related to ethics, such as the spread of hoaxes, cyberbullying, privacy violations, and shifts in values of politeness. This transformation has led to a decline in empathy, an increase in self-validation culture, and the emergence of new moral dilemmas that have never been faced before. Therefore, digital literacy, ethical awareness, and collaboration among various parties are needed to ensure that social relationships on social media remain healthy, harmonious, and civilised

Abstract

The application of Jean Piaget's cognitive development theory in early childhood education curriculum development plays an important role in creating learning programmes that are appropriate to children's developmental stages. Piaget's theory, which identifies sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational and formal operational stages, offers guidance for educators to design appropriate educational activities that support children in each stage of development. Learning through direct experience and play activities, in accordance with Piaget's principles, allows children to learn through interaction with their environment, reinforcing understanding and skills naturally. This approach not only makes the learning process more interesting and relevant for children, but also ensures that the concepts taught are appropriate for their cognitive abilities. The implementation of Piaget's theory in the curriculum also emphasises the early development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are important for intellectual development and readiness to face future challenges. Thus, Piaget's theory contributes significantly to shaping a curriculum that is adaptive, child-centred and effective in supporting children's holistic development early in their educational journey.
