Abstract

This article aims to describe the relevance of integrating religious values into public codes of ethics to drive social transformation within a multicultural society. Utilizing a narrative review method of previous literature, the article identifies the potential of religious moderation and local cultural values, such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation), as foundational elements to strengthen public ethics. The findings indicate that the application of religion-based public ethics in Indonesia has had a positive impact, including enhancing integrity, reducing corruption, and increasing public awareness of the importance of ethics in public life. Integration of religious values into public ethics holds significant potential to address social challenges in a diverse society like Indonesia. In conclusion, by harmonizing religious principles with cultural norms, public ethics can serve as a unifying framework that promotes inclusivity, accountability, and social harmony, thereby fostering a more just and ethical society

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the level of student concern toward children with disabilities at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Mulawarman University. While previous research has discussed empathy or inclusive education separately, few have quantitatively examined the relationship between affective and cognitive empathy and prosocial behaviour among university students at Mulawarman University in East Kalimantan. A quantitative approach using a survey method was employed to measure the dimensions of affective empathy, cognitive empathy, and prosocial behaviour based on the theory of Eisenberg and Miller (1987). A total of 97 students were selected as research samples using the simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analysed using validity and reliability tests, as well as multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that affective and cognitive empathy have a significant influence on students' prosocial behaviour in supporting children with disabilities. The implications of this study highlight the importance of education and socialisation regarding inclusivity to enhance students' social awareness.

Abstract

Waste management remains a major challenge in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas such as Samarinda, which continues to experience increasing waste volume alongside rapid population growth and social–economic activities. One emerging source of organic waste originates from the government’s free lunch program aimed at improving children’s nutritional intake. Although this program provides significant benefits for child nutrition, it also generates a considerable amount of food residue and organic waste that can contribute to environmental pollution if not properly managed. This study aims to explore the role of Generation Z (Gen Z) in utilizing biopore technology as an alternative and eco-friendly solution for managing organic waste generated from the free lunch program. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review, documentation, and case analysis in Samarinda City. Data were analyzed qualitatively through literature interpretation and observation of waste management practices in the field. The findings reveal that the application of biopore technology significantly reduces the volume of organic waste while producing compost beneficial for school greening and urban gardens. Moreover, this technology enhances groundwater absorption and contributes to flood mitigation in densely populated areas. The involvement of Gen Z—characterized by digital literacy and environmental awareness—emerges as a key factor in fostering community-based innovation. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of intergenerational collaboration in supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 on responsible consumption and production.

Abstract

Abstract. Research examining Green Social Work (GSW) within extractive industries remains limited, particularly in understanding the relationships between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Social Impact Assessment (SIA), and indigenous governance systems. This research analyzes the application of Green Social Work (GSW) within the extractive context of East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach grounded in a critical paradigm, this study employs literature analysis and and field-based inquiry involving key informants from affected indigenous communities, village government officials, civil society actors, and extractive industry practitioners with a social work background. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of governance, environmental vulnerability, and community responses. The findings reveal that the implementation of ESG and SIA in extractive governance tends to be procedural and performative, emphasizing compliance and reporting mechanisms rather than substantive community empowerment and ecological justice. Four interrelated themes emerged from the analysis: performative sustainability governance, persistent socio-ecological vulnerability, extractive dependency, and the resilience of indigenous governance systems. Despite increasing sustainability commitments, communities continue to experience environmental degradation, social vulnerability, and limited participation in decision-making processes. At the same time, indigenous governance systems, particularly Umaq and Simpuk, demonstrate important capacities for environmental stewardship and collective accountability. This study further expands Green Social Work scholarship by integrating perspectives from Political Ecology and Indigenous Governance within extractive industry settings. The article offers an analytical framework that connects Green Social Work, ESG governance, and indigenous territorial governance as a basis for advancing ecological justice and community wellbeing in extractive regions.
