Abstract

This study aims to develop an anthropometric database for individuals aged 19-21 in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province to support ergonomic product design tailored to local physiological needs. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving direct measurements of body dimensions in a sitting posture from 52 samples selected via purposive sampling. Key measurements included sitting height, eye level while seated, shoulder height, popliteal length, and other relevant dimensions, analyzed for normality, sufficiency, and consistency. The data followed a normal distribution with sufficient sample validity. Percentile values (P1, P5, P50, P95, P99) revealed significant variations in body dimensions, providing a robust reference for ergonomic design across sectors like creative industries, education, healthcare, and agriculture. The anthropometric database enables designing inclusive, comfortable, and safe products that accommodate various body sizes, enhancing user experience and efficiency in NTB’s key industries. The study is limited to NTB’s 19-21 age group and seated posture measurements, restricting its applicability to Indonesia’s broader population or other postures. Future research should expand geographic scope and include diverse postures to enrich national anthropometric data. Keywords: Anthropometry, Ergonomic Design, Seated Posture, Percentiles, West Nusa Tenggara.

Abstract

This study analyzes the six big losses affecting the effectiveness of injection molding machines to enhance production efficiency in the plastics industry. Utilizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as a key metric, the research measures availability, performance, and quality rates across ten injection molding machines to identify dominant loss factors. Through Pareto analysis and fishbone diagrams, the study pinpoints mold replacement, drool in the nozzle, and color replacement as primary contributors to reduced OEE. Data collected via interviews, observations, and company records reveal that idling, minor stops, and equipment failures account for significant time losses, with specific machines exhibiting OEE values as low as 56%. Recommendations include implementing preventive maintenance, standardizing machine parameters, improving production scheduling, and providing operator training to align with Total Productive Maintenance principles. These strategies aim to minimize downtime and optimize equipment utilization, offering practical solutions for improving productivity and competitiveness in manufacturing.

Abstract

Agricultural biomass such as cocoa husks and peanut shells have great potential as raw materials for briquettes to support the provision of sustainable alternative energy. This study aims to evaluate the effect of variations in the composition of these two materials on the characteristics of briquettes, including calorific value, moisture content, ash content, and burning time. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatment compositions (KC1=100:0, KC2=70:30, KC3=50:50, KC4=30:70, KC5=0:100) and three replications. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and if significant effects were found, the analysis was continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. The results showed that a high proportion of cocoa husk resulted in higher moisture content (15.78%) and lower calorific value (3867 kcal/g), while a high proportion of peanut husk increased the calorific value to 5340 kcal/g and burning time to 84.8 minutes, but was accompanied by higher ash content (17.57%). The balanced mixture of KC3 (50:50) and KC4 (30:70) proved to offer the best compromise, with moisture content <10%, calorific value >4400 kcal/g, burning time >78 minutes, and ash content still within an acceptable range. Thus, although pure peanut shell briquettes (KC5) offer the highest performance, the combination of KC3 and KC4 is more worthy of consideration for improving briquette quality while optimizing the utilization of abundant cocoa shell waste.

Abstract

Agricultural wastes such as cocoa shells and groundnut shells hold significant potential as environmentally friendly alternative energy sources, particularly in West Nusa Tenggara Province, where these commodities are produced in abundance. However, their utilization as biomass energy materials remains limited and underdeveloped. In response to this potential, this study aims to evaluate the effect of varying tapioca starch adhesive concentrations on the characteristics of briquettes made from a mixture of cocoa shell charcoal and peanut shells. The research was conducted experimentally using three adhesive concentrations (10%, 20%, and 30%), with tests performed on calorific value, moisture content, ash content, and flame duration. The results revealed that increasing the adhesive concentration tended to decrease the calorific value and increase both the moisture and ash contents, although it extended the flame duration. The briquettes with 10% adhesive concentration exhibited the best performance, achieving a calorific value of 5,310 cal/g, a moisture content of 7.57%, an ash content of 7.56%, and a flame duration of 73 minutes. These values comply with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for charcoal briquettes, which require a minimum calorific value of 5,000 cal/g, a maximum moisture content of 8%, and a maximum ash content of 8%. These findings highlight the importance of proper adhesive formulation to improve the quality of local biomass-based briquettes and support the transition toward clean and sustainable energy..

Abstract

The issue of plastic waste in rural communities has become an urgent environmental concern due to limited waste management facilities and low public awareness of the impacts of plastic pollution. The massive use of plastics without proper disposal systems has led to the accumulation of waste that contaminates the environment. One practical and educational solution that can be implemented is the production of ecobricks, which involves processing plastic waste into environmentally friendly building materials. This activity aimed to enhance the knowledge, awareness, and skills of young people aged 10–16 years in Ambung Village, East Masbagik District, in managing plastic waste through ecobrick-making training. The implementation method consisted of three stages: socialization, training, and evaluation. The socialization stage involved an interactive lecture on the dangers of plastic waste, followed by hands-on practice in making ecobricks using used plastic bottles. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test instruments to measure participants’ understanding of the reduce, reuse, recycle (3R) concept. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge levels, with an average pre-test score of 51.5 and a post-test score of 84.5, representing an improvement of 63.4%. Participants gained a better understanding of plastic waste management processes, were able to produce ecobricks independently, and were motivated to apply this knowledge at home while encouraging family members and peers to participate. Moreover, the activity fostered a sense of collaboration and creativity among participants by transforming plastic waste into functional products such as flower pots and garden benches. It can be concluded that ecobrick-making training effectively increased ecological awareness, knowledge, and practical skills among young people in plastic waste management, serving as an initial step toward a cleaner and more sustainable village environment.

Abstract

This study proposes the application of Optimal Power Flow (OPF) in the Lombok Electricity System consisting of 19 buses and 7 generating units, with the main objective of reducing production costs under peak load conditions. The method used is a hybrid optimization method that combines two methods, namely the Particle Swarm Optimization and Simulated Annealing algorithms. Particle Swarm Optimization and Simulated Annealing (PSO–SA) method. Combining PSO and SA algorithms can improve the weaknesses of PSO with its jumping feature. In other words, the use of the PSO-SA algorithm is more effective than the PSO method. The simulation results show a generation cost of USD 31,158. The total generated power is 193,736 MW, which is equivalent to a total load of 193.34 MW. In addition, the voltage profile of all buses is at 0.95–1.05 pu and the power flow of all lines is below the thermal capacity. This finding confirms that the use of the PSO–SA algorithm effectively reduces operating costs without violating the system's operating constraints.
