Abstract

The main purpose of this article attempts to explore theoritical framework of the impact of extrovert, introvert, and ambivert on the accuracy of syntax in narrative writing. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, the present study find that the ambiverted students have a balance trait of personality (introvert and extrovert). The ambiverted students have a high concentration in doing writing task such as narrative writing. This is because they are able to communicate with themselves through reflection after involving in social interaction. This trait is different with introverted because ambiverted students have rich of knowledge because they acquire the knowledge through interaction with others in communication and have ability to go in deeper in reading task and reflection. This lead the ambivert students tend to do writing with with rich of vocabularies, they can put in a good sentences pattern (accuracy of syntax) and they have enough background of knowledge so they can do narrative writing easily and construct them in a good sentence (syntax).

Abstract

This study aims at explore the types of translation shifts in the subtitles of the movie The Bad Guys. This research is based on Catford's theory of shifts and utilizes a qualitative descriptive method. The data collected involves translations found in the dialogues of the characters Wolf, Snake, and Diane Foxington, focusing on words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that contain shifts. The results show that all types of shifts are found in the translated text of the movie "The Bad Guys." From the 247 shifts identified, there are 9 level shifts and 238 category shifts, in which, in detail, 98 data are classified as state shifts, 9 data are classified as class shifts, 123 data are classified as unit shifts, and 8 data are classified as intra-system shifts.

Abstract

The paper considers to assess whether recommendation and approximation are suited to beginners as well as intermediate and advance students in writing. The growing academic interest towards writing comprehension in language teaching leads every language teachers to find appropriate strategies to assess the students’ writing ability. Recombination and approximation are apparently known as two important strategies to assess the students’ ability in writing. The assessment itself covers content, grammatical accuracy, organization, and vocabulary along with its coherence and cohesion. The assessment of this study was based on discourse approach. The data collected from a private English course in Yogyakarta. Six students were randomly selected for the study, with two from each level participating. This study employed a combination of methods, including a writing test and a semi-structured interview. The results of the writing test were then subjected to a thorough analysis, employing analytical scoring rubrics as a methodological framework. The findings indicate that recombination is an appropriate learning strategy for novice students, while approximation is more suitable for intermediate and advanced students.
