ABSTRACT The character of environmental awareness regarding the preservation of the environment is a fundamental discussion for the sustainability of future generations. Therefore, efforts to preserve the environment can also be conducted through school education. This study aims to realize environmental awareness by understanding Islamic Educational Values focused on the environment, which aims to enhance environmentally friendly attitudes and behaviours. Environmentally-oriented formal education aspires to foster attitudes and behaviors among school members who are responsible for environmental preservation efforts through Islamic Education. Research Focus: 1) What are the Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari Jember? 2) How is the Actualization of Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari Jember? Research Objectives: 1) To analyze the Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari Jember. 2) To analyze the Actualization of Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari Jember. The research method uses a qualitative approach, specifically a case study. The research location is SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari Jember. The presence of the researcher and the research subjects are determined using purposive sampling, and data collection includes interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis follows the theory of Matthew B. Milles, Huberman, and Saldana, using qualitative data analysis techniques, including data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity is ensured through source and technique triangulation.The conclusions of this research are: 1) The Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari are initiated through school policies encompassing the school's vision, mission, goals, and the Adiwiyata cultural programs. This integration includes Islamic Education subjects who understand the environment from an Islamic perspective. 2)The Actualization of Islamic Educational Values in the Adiwiyata Culture at SMP Negeri 1 Umbulsari is demonstrated through waste recycling, Friday Devotion (Jum'at Taqwa), and environmental awareness posters. Religious leaders (read: NU leaders) in Situbondo have strong political access in parliamentary politics and local government. This is due to the political parties that won the election being based on Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as their constituents, such as PKB, PKNU, and PPP. However, this dominance has begun to fade and fragment into several parties not solely based on pesantren, such as Demokrat, Golkar, and even PDI-P. Pemimpin agama (baca: tokoh NU) di Situbondo memiliki akses politik yang kuat dalam politik parlemen dan pemerintahan daerah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh partai-partai yang menang dalam pemilihan umum berbasis pesantren sebagai konstituen, seperti PKB, PKNU, dan PPP. Namun, dominasi tersebut mulai memudar dan terfragmentasi ke beberapa partai yang tidak hanya berbasis pesantren, seperti Demokrat, Golkar, bahkan PDI-P.

The culture of the Jember community, which places kyai (religious leaders) as revered figures even after their passing, has led to many kyai graves being frequently visited in Jember Regency. These graves are often considered sacred places believed to be the most suitable for praying to God for specific purposes, as well as for praying for the souls of the respective kyai. Budaya masyarakat Jember yang menempatkan kyai sebagai figur panutan yang tetap dihormati meski telah lama wafat menyebabkan banyak makam kyai yang selalu diziarahi di wilayah Kabupaten Jember. Makam kyai juga sering dianggap sebagai tempat keramat yang dipercaya sebagai tempat paling tepat untuk berdoa kepada Tuhan dengan tujuan tertentu, di samping mendoakan arwah kyai yang bersangkutan.

This research aims to examine the role and challenges of Islamic education in strengthening religious moderation through a literature review. The main focus of the research is to explore how Islamic education can contribute to strengthening religious moderation amidst increasingly complex global dynamics. Based on literature analysis, it was found that Islamic education plays an important role in building tolerance, respecting differences, and promoting peace. However, its implementation in various countries faces challenges, such as extremism and a narrow understanding of religion. This research concludes that Islamic education must be updated to respond to the challenges of globalization and encourage more inclusive and universal religious moderation
