Abstract

This research aims to examine the representation of cultural acculturation in the architecture of the Great Mosque of Banten and the surrounding buildings, which reflect the fusion of various cultures, such as Islam, Hinduism, Java, China, and Europe. The method used is the historical research method, which includes the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results showed that the Great Mosque of Banten not only functioned as a center for the spread of Islam, but also as a symbol of the power of the Banten Sultanate. Its architecture reflects the fusion of cultures across civilizations, which can be seen through elements such as the European-style tower that resembles a lighthouse, the multilevel roof structure typical of traditional Javanese architecture, and ornaments that show Chinese and Hindu influences. In addition to its religious function, the presence of the tombs of the Banten Sultans in the mosque complex also makes this place a center of pilgrimage activities and religious tourism destinations. This contributes to the social and economic dynamics of the local community. Thus, it can be concluded that the Great Mosque of Banten is a historical manifestation of cultural and religious acculturation in the context of Nusantara Islamic architecture. Keywords: Banten Sultanate, Great Mosque of Banten, cultural acculturation, Pilgrimage.

Abstract

Kata kunci: makna hidup, filsafat Islam, masyarakat kontemporer, tauhid, keadilan sosial, spiritualitas, pengembangan moral, toleransi Abstract This article explores the philosophical study of the meaning of life from the perspective of Islam and its implications for contemporary society. In Islamic thought, life is not merely physical existence but a spiritual journey aimed at worshiping Allah and achieving true happiness in this world and the hereafter. Classical Islamic philosophers such as Al-Farabi and Al-Ghazali emphasize the importance of intellect, spirituality, and moral development in defining a meaningful life. Meanwhile, modern thinkers like Fazlur Rahman advocate for the dynamic reinterpretation of Islamic teachings to address contemporary challenges. This understanding has significant implications for modern societies facing moral crises, social injustice, and environmental issues. Islamic principles such as tawhid (the oneness of God), justice, balance (mizan), and social responsibility offer guidance to create harmonious and just communities. Moreover, Islam encourages lifelong learning, self-reflection, and tolerance, which are vital in a pluralistic world. This article argues that integrating Islamic philosophical concepts of life’s meaning can contribute positively to individual fulfillment and societal well-being in the modern era. Abstract

This article aims to explore the dynamics of character education implementation in shaping students with noble character (akhlakul karimah) at SMP Negeri 1 Buay Bahuga, Lampung using a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and were then thematically analyzed. The findings reveal that character education is implemented through habituation, teacher exemplification, and the reinforcement of religious culture in daily activities such as Quran recitation, congregational prayers, and religious extracurricular programs. The core values developed include religiosity, discipline, responsibility, empathy, tolerance, honesty, and integrity. The successful internalization of these values is strongly influenced by the synergy between teachers, the school, and the surrounding community. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of a collaborative and contextual approach in creating an effective character education ecosystem. The novelty of this research lies in its examination of how values of akhlakul karimah are not only taught but also brought to life through real practices, school culture, and socially embedded interactions within the local school context
