Abstract

Inclusive-based Islamic religious education is an innovative and strategic approach to preventing religious radicalism. Inclusive Islamic religious education is also a form of Islamic education reform that emphasizes anti-discrimination, tolerance and mutual respect. This study aims to determine inclusive-based Islamic religious education in preventing religious radicalism in Indonesia. A qualitative method with the type of library research, examines a variety of related data, originating from the main data sources as well as supporting data sources that have a direct link with the research. The data obtained were then analyzed by conducting content analysis. The results of this study are in the form of findings relating to the implementation of inclusive-based Islamic religious education in preventing religious radicalism, namely it is found that (a) the goals of religious education are ideological-absolutistic or oriented towards pluralist-inclusive (b) the curriculum of religious education is more oriented towards rigid laws and exclusive into a love-oriented curriculum that is inclusive (c) normative-textual material becomes normative-contextual (d) exclusive-doctrinaire educators become inclusive-moderate educators (tawasuth). (e) The textualist-scriptura list learning strategy becomes an objective-positive approaches.

Abstract

Islamic religious education plays a vital role in shaping students’ moral, spiritual, and emotional character. One relevant approach to achieving this goal is the akhlaki sufism method taught by Imam Al-Ghazali. This study aims to identify and analyze Imam Al-Ghazali’s akhlaki sufism method, the objectives of Islamic education, and the relevance between the two. This method emphasizes seven traits or practices that help students understand the importance of repentance, patience, refraining from criticizing poverty, living in asceticism (zuhud), placing full trust in Allah, loving Allah more than other beings, and accepting destiny with contentment. The research employed a descriptive-analytical method. The collected data were analyzed to identify akhlaki sufism concepts that can be integrated into the Islamic religious education curriculum and how these concepts can contribute to students’ character development. The findings reveal that Imam Al-Ghazali’s akhlaki sufism method consists of seven essential traits or practices which include repentance, patience, refraining from criticizing poverty, living in asceticism, trusting Allah, loving Allah above all else, and accepting destiny with contentment. This method is relevant to Islamic religious education in fostering students’ moral, spiritual, and emotional strength.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education plays a crucial role in building the morality and spirituality of the nation, especially in Indonesia, where the majority of the population is Muslim. Islamic Religious Education not only strengthens religious perspectives but also shapes the character of the younger generation to be virtuous. This study aims to explore Islamic Religious Education as the foundation of the nation’s moral and spiritual development. This research is a library study. The findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education significantly contributes to the development of individual morality and spirituality, in both religious, social, and cultural aspects. Islamic Religious Education teaches students to understand and practice Islamic teachings, with the aim of creating a pious and virtuous individual who contributes to society. Islamic Religious Education also teaches values of justice, mutual respect, and compassion, and supports the creation of a harmonious society that values diversity. Moreover, Islamic Religious Education functions to build moral awareness and social responsibility in individuals, enabling them to actively contribute to the advancement of the nation. This research reinforces the role of Islamic Religious Education in developing the religious character and devotion to God of the nation.
