Abstract

Introduction: Aging leads to cognitive decline, particularly in elderly individuals with dementia, affecting their memory, orientation, and ability to process information. Sensory stimulation through therapeutic approaches plays a crucial role in maintaining cognitive function and improving quality of life in geriatric care. Objective: The purpose of this service was to enhance cognitive function in elderly individuals with dementia through Group Activity Therapy (GAT) using Picture Guessing, aiming to improve memory, concentration, and social interaction. Method: This public service was conducted at the UPTD Social Protection Unit of the Banten Province Social Service. Sixteen elderly participants were selected based on cognitive screening using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ). The therapy involved interactive picture-guessing activities to provide sensory stimulation and cognitive training. Result: The intervention showed positive outcomes, with participants demonstrating improved memory retention, increased concentration, and higher engagement in social interactions. Observations indicated that structured sensory stimulation through Picture Guessing Therapy contributed to cognitive enhancement. Conclusion: Group Activity Therapy using Picture Guessing proved effective in stimulating cognitive function in elderly individuals with dementia.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a leading non-communicable disease with high prevalence in Banten Province, particularly in Cipare Subdistrict, Serang City. Low public awareness regarding hypertension management necessitates a community-based educational and promotive intervention. Objective: This program aimed to enhance public knowledge and promote healthy lifestyle behavior in managing hypertension through complementary therapy and health education. Method: Activities involved Community Discussion Forums (MMD I & II) and the implementation of anti-hypertension exercises and watermelontherapy. Blood pressure was monitored through pre-test and post-test evaluations. Result: Of the 25 participants, 12 demonstrated reduced blood pressure following the intervention. Knowledge about hypertension improved significantly, and the community agreed to conduct hypertension exercises routinely, led by trained health volunteers. Conclusion: Community- based interventions using healthy exercise and watermelon therapy effectively reducedblood pressure and promoted health awareness. This approach can serve as a sustainable model for hypertension management at the community level.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with an increasing incidence rate, and one of its most frequent complications is diabetic ulcers, which significantly impact morbidity, mortality, and amputation risk. Wound care plays a crucial role in managing diabetic ulcers, with the Moist Wound Healing (MWH) method and conventional methods still widely applied. This literature review aims to examine the comparative effectiveness of MWH and conventional methods in diabetic ulcer healing. Article searches were conducted through PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases with a publication range of 2015–2025. From 51 identified articles, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a narrative synthesis approach. The findings indicate that MWH is more effective than conventional methods in accelerating diabetic ulcer healing, as evidenced by increased granulation tissue formation, faster epithelialization, reduced exudate, and decreased risk of infection and pain. Although the initial cost of modern dressings is relatively higher, MWH is more economical overall due to shorter healing duration and reduced length of care. In conclusion, MWH has been proven superior to conventional methods and can be recommended as the standard approach for diabetic ulcer wound care, while still considering patient clinical conditions, dressing availability, and healthcare resources
