Abstract

This study aims to examine how social media affects semantic changes in the use of everyday language, particularly in synonym usage. The objective is to explore the impact of social media on the semantic shift and variation of synonyms in daily communication. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in this research. The data were collected through observation of language use on social media platforms such as Twitter and TikTok, supported by documentation and analysis of user-generated content that showcases frequent synonym usage. The findings reveal that social media significantly influences the choice and meaning of synonyms in everyday language, often encouraging more expressive, creative, and informal word usage. Additionally, the study highlights several forms of semantic shifts, such as broadening, narrowing, and meaning change, which are driven by social and cultural interactions in the digital space. These results demonstrate that social media plays a crucial role in shaping contemporary language dynamics from a semantic perspective.

Abstract

One of the critical skills that one must have when learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at the junior high school level is writing descriptive texts. Nevertheless, it is still observed that a significant number of seventh-grade students have problems with the development and structuring of ideas in a coherent way when composing descriptive texts. The research was intended to examine how the clustering technique influences the writing skills of students in the descriptive texts. The study adopted a quantitative methodology, and it was designed as a quasi-experimental one. The sample was all the students of SMP Swasta Cinta Rakyat 3 Pematangsiantar in the seventh grade in the 2025/2026 academic year (two classes were used as a sample). The experimental group was given as Class VII-C (30 students) which was taught through clustering technique and Class VII-D(30 students) as the control group which was taught through a conventional teaching technique. The items were pre-tested and post-tested and a t-test was conducted to analyze the data. The findings indicated that the experimental group improved significantly, and the mean score rose to 80.10 compared to 63.73, whereas the mean score increased to 71.53 compared to 39.06 in the control group. The t-value (4.86) was above the t -table value (1.665) at the 0.05 level of significance, which meant that there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The results of these studies show that the clustering method is useful in increasing the success of junior high school students in writing descriptive texts in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of internalizing environmental care character values in shaping students' clean behavior at the UPTD of SMP Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. The background of this study is based on the low consistency of clean behavior among students, even though the school has implemented various cleanliness programs. The approach used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of observation and documentation carried out from August to December 2025. Data analysis through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the internalization of environmental care character values takes place through three stages, namely value transformation through the delivery of moral messages and environmental literacy, value transactions through habituation activities such as daily duty, Clean Friday, and the LISA (See Trash Pick Up) movement, and transinternalization which is marked by the formation of students' clean behavior voluntarily without coercion. The success of value internalization is influenced by teacher role models, consistent habituation, and a school culture that supports clean behavior.
