Abstract

This study aims to conduct a literature review related to junior high school students' mathematical learning difficulties in the set material. The method used in the study is Literature Study. The sample consists of several articles in journals. Data collection is carried out through the process of searching, learning, and analyzing references from relevant results related to students' understanding of mathematical concepts, reviewed from the year of research, level of education, research results and type of research. Based on the results of this literature study, it shows that students' mathematical understanding in solving mathematical problems on the set material is still prone to errors and misunderstandings. Some obstacles that often arise include shallow understanding of the definition and basis of sets, difficulty in applying set operations, and difficulty in understanding the concept of relations between sets at all levels. Further research is needed to understand in depth the conditions that affect students' mathematical understanding in the set material. In addition, the development of effective learning strategies also needs to be done to help students gain a better mathematical understanding in solving mathematical problems on the set material. This study identifies the causes of junior high school students' mathematical learning difficulties in the set material, such as lack of understanding of basic concepts, lack of practice and experience in applying the material. The results of this literature study can provide information and guidance for mathematics teachers to improve junior high school students' mathematics learning on the subject of sets.

Abstract

This study discusses the application of ethnomathematics through the traditional game of engklek as a medium for learning flat shapes in elementary schools. The method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, structured interviews, and tests. The data analysis techniques used include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions to determine the effectiveness of learning. The research subjects were fourth-grade students at Al-Irsyad Al-Islamiyyah Elementary School. The results showed that students were more enthusiastic and active when learning using the engklek game. After the learning process, 90% of students experienced an increase in their understanding of flat shapes. The engklek game helped students understand geometric shapes in a concrete and enjoyable way, as well as fostering an interest in learning mathematics. Additionally, this approach preserves local culture and improves social skills. Learning becomes more contextual and meaningful. Traditional games have proven to be effective as an alternative learning medium for mathematics, especially in abstract subjects such as geometry.

Abstract

The sustainability of students' studies in the Mathematics Education Study Program is a crucial concern, especially amidst the various academic and non-academic challenges they face. This study aims to analyze the factors that motivate students to persist in studying in the Mathematics Education Study Program at Universitas PGRI Wiranegara (UNIWARA) Pasuruan, describe students' experiences in maintaining their study commitment, and identify the internal and external factors that most influence students' decisions to complete their studies. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with 17 active students selected through proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and documentation using method triangulation techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that students' internal motivation is the most dominant factor that encourages them to persist in college, characterized by an interest in mathematics education, clear career goals, and personal commitment. These factors are strengthened by external support from family, lecturers, and peers, as well as students' resilience in facing academic challenges. The campus environment and administrative and academic systems play a role as supporting factors that help the study process run smoothly. The findings of this study indicate that student study sustainability is the result of an interaction between internal and external factors, with internal motivation as the main foundation in maintaining student commitment to study in the Mathematics Education Study Program.
