Abstract

Preparing for the Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK) poses a significant challenge for high school students, not only in terms of academic mastery but also in mental readiness to face exam pressure. One of the main issues identified is math anxiety, which can disrupt concentration and lower academic performance. To address this challenge, the SMART UTBK program was developed as a comprehensive approach that integrates anxiety management strategies with competency strengthening through UTBK-style practice questions. The program includes educational webinars that discuss techniques to overcome math anxiety and offer practical tips for solving UTBK math problems, as well as online tryout sessions designed to simulate real test conditions. A total of 100 senior high school students participated in this initiative. Evaluation results indicated that over 70% of participants found the math anxiety material helpful in managing excessive exam-related stress and reported improved understanding of problem-solving strategies. The tryout sessions were also considered representative and effective in helping students assess their readiness in a realistic context. This program not only addresses technical knowledge needs but also provides the psychological support essential for students facing university entrance exams. The SMART UTBK program underscores the importance of integrative interventions, demonstrating that equipping students both psychologically and academically can significantly enhance their emotional and cognitive preparedness

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to describe the process of developing educational multimedia, specifically the “Zuma Function” game, using Scratch programming for mathematics learning on the topic of relations and functions. Methods: The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, following the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The study involved 35 mathematics education students from a university in West Java and 6 eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected using various instruments, including questionnaires, tests, interviews, and documentation. Findings: The developed learning media was evaluated by experts, receiving a material expert test score of 81%, and a learning media expert test score of 83%, both categorized as feasible. The functionality test, measured through User Acceptance Testing, yielded an average score of 85.1%, indicating a very feasible category, while the effectiveness test showed a 30.5% improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with scores rising from 64.83 to 95.33. Conclusion: Based on the study’s findings, the Scratch-based multimedia for teaching relations and functions in mathematics was successfully developed using the ADDIE model. Positive user feedback and significant improvements in student test scores suggest that this multimedia is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of the concept, though there are areas that could be further refined.        Keywords: learning media, mathematics game, function, Scratch, ADDIE.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1410-1427

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is an essential 21st-century competency that students must possess to address global challenges. However, results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) show that Indonesian students' mathematical literacy remains low. This study aims to explore the epistemological obstacles experienced by students in understanding and solving PISA-standard mathematical literacy problems related to functions. Employing a qualitative approach through Didactical Design Research (DDR), this study focused on identifying epistemological obstacles among four 8th-grade students at a public secondary school in Bandung. Data were collected using tests, interviews, and documentation. The research findings revealed epistemological obstacles related to both conceptual knowledge and practical application, which were detailed in five main issues: understanding the concept of functions, representing functions in the form of equations, graphs, and tables, and solving context-based problems. These obstacles arose due to limited foundational knowledge, such as the concepts of domain, range, and variables, as well as a lack of practice in solving contextual problems.      Keywords: epistemological obstacles, mathematical literacy, PISA, function, mathematic education.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i4.pp1771-1786
