Abstract

This study explores the contribution of digital media in strengthening spiritual values among the millennial generation who actively use digital platforms. The method used is a qualitative literature review of various references regarding the function of social media in understanding Islam. The main results show that digital media is effective in spreading spiritual values due to easy access, efficient costs and time, and the ability to reach the right audience. Millennials can quickly find spiritual materials that suit their needs. Digital media also increases religious understanding and awareness through lectures, discussions, and online communities. However, there are risks associated with the spread of inaccurate spiritual information and consumption of instant content that can reduce the depth of spiritual thinking. Therefore, the use of digital media needs to be combined with good digital literacy in order to have a positive impact on the development of the religiosity of the millennial generation.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of the Islamic economic system in community empowerment and strengthening the economic independence of the people through the use of instruments such as zakat, infaq, sedekah, productive waqf, and Islamic microfinance institutions. Researchers use a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews with Islamic economic actors and community leaders, and documentation studies. The research results indicate that Islamic economics not only contributes to the material aspect but also functions as a mechanism for fostering the social, spiritual, and cultural development of the community. Empowerment based on zakat and productive waqf, as well as Islamic financing through Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) and Islamic cooperatives, has proven effective in improving the standard of living of people experiencing poverty, creating jobs, and strengthening social solidarity. However, the implementation of Islamic economics at the grassroots level still faces various challenges, such as low literacy of Islamic economics, limitations in the management of waqf assets, and suboptimal synergy between Islamic institutions. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen institutions, support regulations, and integrate Islamic economics into development policies both at the local and national levels. Thus, Islamic economics can be an alternative foundation in community development that is not only oriented towards economic growth but also towards achieving blessings and balance in life in accordance with the principles of maqashid sharia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the challenges faced by the Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD) of Medan City in building community participation in disaster management. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, this research explores experiences and social interactions through in-depth interviews with BPBD staff from various divisions. The findings indicate that although BPBD has systematically implemented disaster management through three phases (pre-disaster, emergency response, and post-disaster), the level of community participation remains low and reactive. The main challenges include weak inter-agency coordination, limited literacy and collective awareness regarding disaster risks, constraints in human resources and funding, and ineffective communication methods used in disaster socialization. Based on community participation and social awareness theories, community participation patterns remain top-down and limited to the implementation stage, not yet encompassing planning and evaluation. This study recommends strengthening education based on local wisdom, developing two-way communication systems, enhancing cross-sector coordination, and implementing community-based disaster management approaches to realize independent and adaptive disaster-resilient communities.
