Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of church shepherding in enhancing nationalism among young adult Chinese Indonesians. The background of this research stems from the persistent sense of apathy and alienation from national identity experienced by some in the younger Chinese Indonesian generation, largely due to a historical legacy of marginalization. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing various scholarly sources relevant to the themes of pastoral care, ethnic identity, and nationalism within the context of the church and Indonesian society. The findings indicate that contextual, narrative, and restorative shepherding practices are effective in fostering national awareness through faith-based teaching integrated with Pancasila values, cross-cultural engagement, and the healing of collective memory. The discussion reveals that pastoral strategies addressing both social and spiritual identity holistically can cultivate a sense of national belonging without erasing ethnic heritage. The church holds great potential as a transformative social agent, empowering young adult Chinese Indonesians to become nationalistic, faithful, and actively engaged citizens. Thus, church shepherding plays a significant role in addressing the challenges of ethnic integration and in shaping nationalism in Indonesia.

Abstract

Meditation is a spiritual practice widely known in various religious traditions and beliefs around the world, including Christianity. However, in the context of Christian faith, the understanding and practice of meditation often remain controversial. Some Christians reject meditation because they associate it with non-Christian practices, while others are becoming more open to it, especially through greater access to information. The ambiguity of the concept of meditation in Christianity is an issue that needs to be studied in depth so that believers have a correct and theological understanding. This study aims to explore the meaning of meditation from a biblical perspective, specifically based on Psalm 119:15, and to distinguish it from non-Christian meditation practices. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method and exegetical analysis of biblical texts. The results of the study show that meditation in Christianity centres on reflecting on the Word of God as a means of deepening one's relationship with God and forming a spiritual life rooted in divine truth. Thus, Christian meditation has a strong biblical foundation and differs fundamentally from other religious meditations, particularly in its focus, object of reflection, and spiritual purpose.

Abstract

The post-truth era has challenged the epistemological foundations of Christians by making personal perspectives, individual feelings or emotions, even subjective opinions, and popular narratives the new standards of truth. This distorts the meaning of objective truth or biblical truth, which should be rooted in the Word of God. This article proposes creation theology as an alternative epistemological paradigm to address this crisis. By emphasising God as the Creator and Source of all truth, creation theology provides a solid ontological and epistemological foundation for understanding truth that is stable, integral, and transcendent. This approach is based on qualitative-descriptive methodology through a literature review of theological texts and the post-truth paradigm. It can be concluded that the characteristics and epistemological implications of the post-truth era highlight the crucial role of creation theology as a reference or ontological and epistemological foundation for truth. Christian epistemology from the perspective of creation theology serves as a critique of the relativism and subjectivism that have become prevalent within Christian communities. Therefore, there is a need for pastoral and educational implications for the church: to actualise the paradigm of creation theology.

Abstract

The phenomenon of Orang Dalam (hereafter “Ordal”), referring to privilege and exclusive access in social contexts, often results in injustice. However, scholarly discussions linking the biblical representation of Ordal to social and humanitarian dimensions, particularly in Christian Religious Education (CRE), remain limited. This study critically examines the concept of Ordal in the Bible and explores its implications for character formation through CRE. A qualitative approach employing hermeneutical methods was used to interpret relevant biblical texts, supported by contextual analysis of narratives portraying Ordal figures within their historical and social settings. The findings indicate that biblical depictions of Ordal often represent marginalized groups experiencing powerlessness, oppression, or social injustice, as seen in prophetic advocacy for the oppressed and in Jesus’ rebukes of partiality and unfair privilege. Such narratives not only reflect the social realities of their time but also articulate theological imperatives concerning the moral responsibility of faith to defend the vulnerable. The study underscores the need to integrate critical biblical engagement with Ordal narratives into CRE learning to cultivate social sensitivity, critical awareness, and a commitment to humanitarian and justice values, equipping students to become agents of social transformation grounded in Christian faith.ABSTRAKFenomena Orang Dalam (selanjutnya disebut “Ordal”), yang dalam konteks sosial merepresentasikan privilese dan akses istimewa, kerap berimplikasi pada ketidakadilan.
