Abstract

This community service activity aimed to detect early health risk factors among adolescent girls through simple health screenings and to enhance students' awareness of healthy living using an Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) approach. The methods included basic physical examinations, body mass index (BMI) measurements, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), blood pressure checks, and dental health evaluations. The activity was conducted in April 2025 at Dormitory Campus A of Poltekkes Kemenkes Manado, involving 45 students from various study programs. The results showed that 31.1% of participants suffered from Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), 35.8% had underweight status, 22.2% were classified as thin, and 13.4% were overweight or obese. Additionally, 35.8% of the students had low blood pressure, while 64.4% were in the ideal weight category. The program also provided nutrition education, promoted healthy eating patterns, and distributed iron tablets. These findings highlight the need for continuous interventions in the form of health education and monitoring. In conclusion, the IPC approach is effective in detecting health problems among adolescent girls while improving students' knowledge and attitudes towards their personal health.

Abstract

Climate change is one of the biggest global challenges of the 21st century with far-reaching impacts on various sectors, including public health. This research aims to study how climate change affects the spread of infectious diseases in urban environments, with an emphasis on environmental and behavioural factors that influence the spread of disease. The quantitative method used in this study is descriptive-analytic design. Descriptive research is used to describe the phenomenon of the spread of infectious diseases in urban environments associated with climate change components such as air temperature, rainfall, and humidity. Over five years, the incidence rate of dengue fever in West Sumatra has fluctuated and continued to increase. As shown, the rainfall pattern is changing and increasing. The picture shows a trend of increasing rainfall along with an increase in the number of dengue cases. However, there is a time difference, or time lag, between the increase in cases. Every region should have an early warning system for extraordinary dengue events. As climatic factors change, environmental improvements are also needed along with changes in other factors such as behaviour and health services.

Abstract

High consumption of fast food among adolescents is a serious concern because it has the potential to increase the risk of obesity. Lifestyle changes, lack of physical activity, and easy access to fast food exacerbate this situation. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to ascertain how fast food eating habits relate to the prevalence of adolescent obesity. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional methodology and an analytical quantitative design.  75 teenagers between the ages of 15 and 18 who were chosen by purposive sampling at a single Padang City high school made up the sample.  Body mass index (BMI) measurements and questionnaires on dietary patterns were used to gather data. Results: The chi-square test analysis revealed a significant correlation (p < 0.05) between the incidence of obesity and the frequency of fast food consumption.  Teenagers who eat fast food three times a week are more likely to become obese than those who don't. Implications: the implication of this study is the need for educational interventions on healthy eating among adolescents, as well as the involvement of schools and families in controlling access to fast food. Conclusion: In conclusion, fast food consumption habits and obesity are significantly correlated, so prevention from school age is an important step in reducing the risk of long-term obesity.

Abstract

The nutritional status of pregnant women is a major determinant of maternal and fetal health. Not only malnutrition such as anemia and chronic energy deficiency (CED), but also excess nutrition such as obesity can cause pregnancy complications. However, most nutritional interventions have not considered variations in nutritional status based on maternal body mass index (BMI). Nutrition education is one of the important interventions bto improve knowledge and change nutritional consumption behavior. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional education on the nutritional status of pregnant women and their fetuses. The study used a pre-post test design with a quantitative approach on 60 pregnant women in the second trimester who received nutrition education for 4 weeks. The parameters measured were changes in hemoglobin levels, upper arm circumference (MUAC), and weight gain. The results showed a significant increase in the average hemoglobin level (p <0.05) and MUAC after the intervention. Nutrition education has been proven effective in improving the nutritional status of pregnant women, both in terms of anemia, energy, and weight. This intervention should be an integral part of antenatal care (ANC) services, taking into account the diversity of maternal nutritional status and socio-economic background.
