Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms, strategies, and supporting and inhibiting factors for maintaining the Javanese language in the diaspora community in Pangkajene Village, Maritengngae District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. The phenomenon of language shift that occurs due to social mobility and interaction with different language environments is the background to the importance of this study. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the maintenance of the Javanese language is carried out through the use of language in the family, social activities, and religious areas. The strategies applied include passing on the language to children, using Javanese in traditional activities, and getting used to it in daily communication. Supporting factors include a sense of pride in ethnic identity and the existence of a community of fellow diaspora, while inhibiting factors include the dominance of Indonesian and Bugis languages in the surrounding environment and the lack of interest of the younger generation. This study emphasizes the importance of the role of families and communities in maintaining the sustainability of regional languages in a multicultural society.

Abstract

This study examines the use of euphemism in crime news published on online media platforms, with a particular focus on Detik.com. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the forms and functions of euphemism that journalists employ to present sensitive or potentially disturbing information in a more polite, neutral, and socially acceptable manner. The data were collected from crime-related news articles published in February 2025 through a reading and note-taking technique. The analysis involved three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that euphemism appears in various forms, including abbreviations, loanwords, foreign terms, metaphors, and periphrasis. These linguistic strategies serve multiple functions: softening harsh expressions, concealing sensitive information, maintaining diplomacy, providing educational value, and reducing social anxiety. Overall, the study highlights the role of euphemism in shaping public perception of crime news and its importance in upholding journalistic ethics. The results are expected to contribute to a better understanding of how language use in the media influences communication, objectivity, and sensitivity in news reporting.

Abstract

The material object of this research is Mansur Samin's social criticism in his poem entitled "Pidato Seorang Demonstran". This poem is full of socio-political protests that discuss the situation experienced by the Indonesian people during the 1960s. The formal object of this poem uses a literary sociology approach adopted from Ian Waat's theory, which focuses on the societal aspects of literary works, considering them as the author's response to social reality. The findings produced in this study are that the poem "Pidato Seorang Demonstran" reflects the background of political change, economic instability, and dissatisfaction of the society at that time. The social criticism in this poem includes abuse of power, economic, political, and human rights issues. The critique addresses military repression, economic inequality, the behavior of political leaders, and human rights violations. The poem becomes a voice that reflects the socio-political conditions of Indonesia at that time and provides a perspective on the aspirations and discontent of the people.
