Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of drawing activities in improving fine motor skills and psychological well-being of children with special needs at Yayasan X, West Jakarta. The method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collected through weekly observations over one month and pre-test and post-test measurements of psychological well-being using a simple observation scale. The observed indicators include grip strength, movement accuracy, duration and quality of children's participation, as well as positive emotional expression, self-confidence, and social interaction. The results show gradual and consistent improvement in most participants in both fine motor skills and psychological well-being. In conclusion, drawing activities are effective in stimulating the development of fine motor skills and enhancing the psychological well-being of children with special needs, and are recommended for regular implementation in non-formal inclusive education.

Abstract

Academic failure often generates negative emotions, such as guilt, shame, and disappointment, which in turn diminish students’ psychological well-being. Although this dynamic has received attention in several studies, research specifically examining the role of self-forgiveness in enhancing psychological well-being among students who experience academic failure remains limited. This study aimed to investigate the role of self-forgiveness in improving psychological well-being among university students who had experienced academic failure. A quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis was employed with 325 students in Jakarta selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the self-forgiveness dimension of the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS), which was developed based on Ryff’s (1989) six dimensions of psychological well-being. The results showed a significant positive relationship between self-forgiveness and psychological well-being (r = 0.521; p < 0.001), with self-forgiveness contributing 55.7% to psychological well-being, while the remaining 44.3% was influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study. These findings underscore self-forgiveness as an important factor that helps students restore their psychological condition after experiencing academic failure and indicate the need to develop self-forgiveness-oriented strategies to enhance students’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

The high use of social media in the digital era has the potential to increase loneliness. This condition is often experienced by university students who are in the stage of emerging adulthood, a transitional phase marked by various developmental demands. Loneliness in this phase is often associated with decreased self-esteem, which can lead to dissatisfaction with oneself and affect several aspects of students' lives. One external factor known to influence self-esteem is social support. Social support provides a sense of being valued, accepted, and acknowledged by the surrounding environment, which can strengthen positive self-evaluation. This study aims to examine whether there is a relationship between social support and self-esteem among university students who are vulnerable to low self-esteem due to developmental demands and loneliness. This study uses a quantitative approach with correlation analysis to test the relationship between the two variables. A total of 262 participants were recruited using non-probability sampling techniques. The results show that social support has a small positive relationship with self-esteem among lonely students in the digital era. These findings indicate that the higher the social support received by students, the higher their self-esteem tends to be. Therefore, social support is proven to be a contributing factor to self-esteem among students experiencing loneliness in the digital era.

Abstract

Emotion regulation is an individual’s ability to control behaviors that are inconsistent with the emotions experienced and to manage oneself so as not to depend on either negative or positive moods. Based on observations and interviews conducted during the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program at Orphanage X, children with special needs exhibited various emotional challenges, such as tantrums, impulsive behavior, and difficulties expressing emotions. This study aims to develop and evaluate an activity-based intervention module to improve the emotion regulation abilities of children with special needs at Orphanage X. The study employed a research and development method comprising the stages of needs analysis, design, trial, and evaluation. The intervention module integrates collective painting activities, educational games, video presentations, and emotion activity sheets designed for easy implementation by caregivers. The results of the module implementation showed improvements in the children’s ability to recognize emotions, a reduction in negative emotional responses, and increased social participation. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of collective art activities as a medium for emotion regulation, systematically organized and adapted to the characteristics of the children at Orphanage X. This study provides a practical contribution in the form of an original and applicable intervention module to support caregivers in facilitating the emotional and social development of children with special needs.
