Abstract

Abstract Indonesia's cultural, ethnic and religious diversity requires an educational approach that promotes inclusiveness and tolerance. Multicultural education is key to instilling values of respect for diversity from an early age, in line with the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. This research examines implementation process of the PEL-JN (Pengenalan dan Eksplorasi Lingkungan-Jelajah Nusantara) program at Nasima Elementary School, Semarang, as a model for fostering multicultural competence among elementary school students. Based on experiential learning theory and multicultural education principles, the program engages students in exploring regional cultures, immersing themselves in local community life, and creating cultural works. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations and document analysis. Findings show that the ELE-JN program enhances students' cultural awareness, empathy and collaboration skills through the link between classroom learning and real-world cultural experiences. The research underscores the program's potential as a model that can be implemented in Indonesian primary schools, providing insights for educators and policy makers. Abstrak Keberagaman budaya, etnis, dan agama di Indonesia membutuhkan pendekatan pendidikan yang mempromosikan inklusivitas dan toleransi. Pendidikan multikultural menjadi kunci untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai penghargaan terhadap keberagaman sejak dini, sejalan dengan semboyan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Penelitian ini mengkaji proses implementasi program PEL-JN (Pengenalan dan Eksplorasi Lingkungan-Jelajah Nusantara) di Sekolah Nasima, Semarang, sebagai model untuk memupuk kompetensi multikultural di kalangan siswa sekolah dasar. Berlandaskan teori pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman dan prinsip pendidikan multikultural, program ini melibatkan siswa dalam mengeksplorasi budaya daerah dan meresapi kehidupan komunitas lokal dan menghasilkan karya budaya. Dengan pendekatan studi kasus kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa program PEL-JN meningkatkan kesadaran budaya, empati, dan keterampilan kolaborasi siswa melalui hubungan antara pembelajaran di kelas dan pengalaman budaya di dunia nyata. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi potensi program sebagai model yang dapat diterapkan di sekolah dasar Indonesia, memberikan wawasan bagi pendidik dan pembuat kebijakan. Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning motivation of students in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject due to the use of conventional learning methods that are less interesting and the minimal use of interactive media. The purpose of this study is to describe the application of Canva-based interactive multimedia in improving the learning motivation of fifth grade students at SD Negeri Gondoriyo 01. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with three main stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, while data validity is obtained through source triangulation. The research subjects were 26 students. The results of the study showed that the use of Canva-based interactive multimedia was proven to be feasible and effective in the learning process. This media is able to attract students' attention, increase involvement in learning activities, and generate intrinsic motivation to understand IPAS material more deeply. Therefore, the use of Canva as an interactive learning media is recommended to improve the quality of learning in elementary schools.
