Abstract

The use of test and non-test instruments in guidance and counseling services is a crucial aspect in understanding the needs, potential, and problems of students comprehensively. The urgency of this study lies in the need to strengthen the practice of assessment in the midst of the dynamic needs of students in the current era. This study aims to systematically review the utilization of test and non-test instruments in counseling services based on national and international journal articles. The method used is a literature review with a qualitative-descriptive approach, through content analysis of published publications. The results show that the combined use of test and non-test instruments can improve assessment accuracy, but its implementation still faces methodological and practical challenges. This study contributes to formulating strategies for strengthening guidance and counseling assessment based on valid and relevant data, and recommends developing the competence of guidance and counseling teachers in assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role and application of descriptive and inferential statistics in guidance and counseling research. Descriptive statistics are employed to present data characteristics such as perceptions, attitudes, and satisfaction levels toward counseling services, while inferential statistics are used to test hypotheses, explore relationships between variables, and assess the effectiveness of counseling programs. This qualitative review analyzed 15 relevant international journal articles. The findings indicate that the use of statistics in counseling research not only enhances the validity and reliability of findings but also aids school counselors in making data-driven decisions. The study recommends improving statistical literacy among guidance and counseling practitioners and researchers as a crucial step toward strengthening evidence-based practices.

Abstract

The evolving demands of the modern era require the field of Guidance and Counseling to go beyond technical practices and embrace a strong philosophical foundation. This study aims to explore the collaboration between philosophy of science and counseling practice as a strategic effort to develop a reflective and adaptive scientific paradigm. Employing a qualitative research design with a literature review method, data were collected from relevant academic sources and analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that integrating the philosophy of science enriches counselors' frameworks and addresses the fragmentation within the discipline. This study contributes to the formulation of counselor education models that emphasize critical reflection and contextual value integration. The conclusion highlights the urgency of reconstructing curricula and suggests future empirical research to evaluate the practical implementation of this integration in real world counseling contexts.
