Abstract

Abstract

The rapid urban development has increased the density of buildings and decreased the Green Open Space (RTH), thereby affecting the thermal comfort of an area. The level of thermal comfort can be observed from the characteristics of temperature and humidity. The determination of thermal comfort levels, especially in Semarang City, is conducted using the Humidex method. The calculation results show Humidex values ranging from 38.83°C to 41.10°C, categorized as uncomfortable to very uncomfortable. The highest Humidex value was recorded at the Semarang Climatology Station in 2023, while the lowest was at the Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorology Station in the same year. Meanwhile, Landsat 8 imagery analysis shows that from 2014 to 2023, the total land cover transition in Semarang reached 68.541 km² for buildings; 63.104 km² for tree vegetation; 1.353 km² for other vegetation; and 6.784 km² for water bodies. By the end of the research period in 2023, the area of tree vegetation in Semarang City was 91.187 km². The analysis of the relationship between Humidex values and the area of building cover shows a correlation coefficient of 0.87, indicating an increase in building cover area that has raised the Humidex value in Semarang City. Furthermore, the correlation of Humidex with the area of RTH is -0.83, meaning there is a strong negative linear relationship between the Humidex values and the RTH area, or the larger the RTH cover, the lower the Humidex value in Semarang City. To maintain or improve the level of thermal comfort in Semarang City, it is recommended to balance the distribution of RTH locations, especially in the northern and eastern parts of Semarang. The Semarang City government should enhance the quality of RTH by choosing appropriate vegetation, performing regular maintenance, improving facilities and services around RTH, and continuously educating the public.

Abstract

The La Nina phenomenon occurs when the sea surface temperature in the Northeast Pacific Ocean becomes colder. Meanwhile, temperatures in the Western Pacific Ocean are warmer than usual. Such conditions affect the oceanographic conditions of Indonesia's waters, including the Northern Waters of East Java. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research aimed at analyzing the impact of the La Nina phenomenon on the fertility of the Northern Waters of East Java, through observations of sea surface temperature (SST) distribution, chlorophyll-a concentration, and fish catch data. SST data and chlorophyll-a concentration were obtained from Aqua-MODIS satellite images and analyzed using quantitative methods. Meanwhile, fish catch data were obtained from seven fishing ports on the North Coast of East Java. The results showed that the SST cycle in East Munson was not affected by the La Nina phenomenon. However, La Nina affects the ever-increasing SST anomaly value. The SST cycle in West Munson decreased in the La Niña period. Chlorophyll-a anomaly values also decreased during the La Nina period, especially from October 2017 to April 2018.  Chlorophyll-a anomaly values tend to increase in the La Nina period from August 2020 to December 2022. This is influenced by the IOD (-) period. There was a time lag in the effect of SST and chlorophyll-a on fish catches. During La Nina, fertility rates in the Northern Waters of East Java tend to be low, marked by warming sea surface temperatures, uneven distribution of chlorophyll-a, and reduced fish catches. Such conditions can be taken into consideration in the planning of mitigation measures for the impacts of La Niña in the maritime and fisheries sectors in the upcoming period.

Abstract

The rapid development of the country in Indonesia, especially in the fields of industry and technology, is inseparable from the problem of air pollution, especially in the environment, namely pollutant gas and dust. Air pollution needs to be environmentallyfriendly by increasing the amount of vegetation or reforestation by planting tree species that have the ability to grow and absorb pollutant gases and absorb dust particles in polluted environmental conditions. The study uses descriptive analysis by assessing tree elements macroscopically to select the appropriate tree species and can be recommended as an absorber of gas pollutants and dust absorbers based on tree suitability scoring. The results showed that of 7 (seven) dominant tree species identified, there were 3 (three) dominant tree species that were very suitable, 3 (three) dominant tree species were suitable, and only 1 (one) dominant tree species were not suitable for air pollutant gas. Whereas the evaluation of the function of dust particle absorptionshows that all dominant tree species studied have the appropriate criteria in absorbing dust with the acquisition of 65% -75% evaluation value. Keywords: Dust, Pollutant, Tree.

Abstract

Actually Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the city of Surabaya give negative contributions to the environment. Related to this, two studies have been conducted to help overcome the negative impact. The first stage of the study was analyzed environmental performance of SMEs in Surabaya. As a result of the study, recommendations for activities for SMEs have been formulated to be more pro-environment. The next phase of the second phase of the research, which consists of the level of implementation of the assessment that has been given, the results that can be done regarding the discussion carried out. The results of the second phase of research that discusses the level of implementation of the assessment given to SMEs varies from 50-90%. Thus, SME awareness to make its company a Pro Environment company still has to improve. The formulation of an educational model for SMEs is needed, so that the environmental performance carried out is not limited to passing legislation. Moreover, the performance of the environment implemented by the company is approved, because it provides a larger company and environmental sustainability.
