Abstract

Indonesia has entered an aging population structure where the percentage of the elderly population has reached more than 10% since 2021. According to WHO data, the elderly population in Indonesia was 9.92% in 2020 and will increase to 20% in 2045. One of the health problems faced by the elderly is muscle weakness. Community service activities are carried out to prevent this disorder from becoming more progressive. These activities, which aim to train several physical exercise movements for gross motor activities, have significantly improved muscle strength, balance, and overall physical health in older people. Education is delivered through video screenings, live demonstrations, and socialization through banner media. The physical exercises taught can be done individually or in groups through games. This PKM activity was attended by 61 residents of nursing homes, most of whom were in the 71-80 year age group (39.34%) and over 80 years (39.34%), with an average age of 77.98 years. All participants agreed that the PKM activities held were interesting and valuable. Most elderly are interested in participating in other physical exercise activities in the future (97.87%). And after participating in this educational activity, 70.21% of older people became more motivated to do it routinely. The type of gross motor activity physical exercise preferred by older people is individual physical exercise, namely, tiptoe exercises (72.34%), raising and lowering the ball (68.09%), and bending the legs backward (65.96%).

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kanker merupakan kelainan genetik dan metabolik yang menjadi tantangan yang besar pada abad ke-21 ini. Dewasa ini terbukti bahwa Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) dapat memicu karsinogenesis melalui beberapa jalur ongkogenik atau mutasi ongkogenik pada DNA. Oleh sebab itu diperlukan antioksidan yang dapat meregulasi jumlah ROS dalam sel kanker. Selain itu, hampir semua aktivitas fitokimia bekerja dalam beberapa jalur pensinyalan sel dan dapat berpotensi menghambat progresi keganasan. Salah satu fitokimia yang dapat memicu apoptosis adalah alkaloid karbazol yang terdapat pada daun kari (Murraya koenigii L.). Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kandungan fitokimia, kapasitas antioksidan, dan sitotoksisitas ekstrak metanol daun kari. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan ekstrak metanol daun kari yang diperoleh dengan metode perkolasi. Ekstrak kemudian dilakukan pengujian secara invitro untuk mengetahui kandungan fitokimia dan kapasitas antioksidan dengan metode 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS). Selain itu, dilakukan juga pengujian dengan bioassay pada uji sitotoksisitas metode Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). Hasil: Ekstrak metanol daun kari mengandung alkaloid, antosianin, koumarin, flavonoid, kuinon, saponin, steroid, tanin, dan terpenoid, dengan kapasitas antioksidan yang dinyatakan dalam IC50 sebesar 30,70 μg/mL, sedikit lebih lemah dibandingkan Trolox sebesar 16,46 µg/mL. Sedangkan uji sitotoksisitas pada ekstrak metanol daun kari didapatkan LC50 sebesar 235,34 µg/mL. Simpulan: Ekstrak metanol daun kari memiliki beragam fitokimia dengan aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat kuat (> 150 µg/mL) dan tergolong toksik (31 – 1000 µg/mL) sehingga bersifat sitotoksik terhadap sel yang sedang membelah sehingga memiliki potensi sebagai antikanker.

Abstract

Introduction: Curry leaves (Murraya koenigii L.) are plants that naturally grow in the Indian subcontinent, except at the peak of the Himalayan mountains, which in their development have spread widely to various corners of the world. Traditionally, curry leaves have been used by people as medicine. However, it is now known that this plant contains carbazole alkaloid compounds and polyphenols that have antioxidant activity. This is very useful for controlling free radical levels in the human body so that they remain within reasonable limits. This is very useful for controlling the levels of free radicals in the human body to stay within reasonable limits. Free radicals are produced by normal cell metabolism which has recently been associated with the pathophysiology of various diseases. Methods: This in vitro research was to determine phenolic content and antioxidant potential in methanol extract of curry leaves. Total phenolic content testing used the Folin-Ciocalteu method and expressed by Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE). Total antioxidant capacity testing used the DPPH method and Trolox as a comparison solution. Results: The total antioxidant capacity is expressed in the form of IC50. The total phenolic content of curry leaf methanol extract was 4007.78 μg/mL or equivalent to 133.59 mg GAE/g DW and the total antioxidant capacity of curry leaf methanol extract was 37.418 μg/mL. Conclusion: The total phenolic content of curry leaf methanol extract is high (>5 mg GAE/g). Correspondingly, the total antioxidant capacity of curry leaf methanol extract is also classified as very strong (<150 µg/mL).
