Reflection on the Photo Criticism Model and the Response Model in the Creative Practice Model. Feldman’s and Barrett’s models of photographic criticism examine elements and principles of art, photographic style, and sociopolitical and cultural contexts, while the response model seeks to capture the emotional and experiential dimensions of the photographer. This study explores whether the application of both criticism and response models influences the photographic creation process. Employing Nelson’s practice-led research framework, the study incorporates in-depth, unstructured interviews with photographers Oscar Motuloh and Kusnadi to gain insights into their creative processes. The photo creation process follows Nelson’s model, with reflections guided by Feldman’s and Barrett’s criticism frameworks and the response model. These reflections significantly shape insight and intuition during the creative process, particularly concerning Nelson’s "know what" and "know-that" dimensions. Aesthetic and cognitive experiences, both in responding to one's work and inspirational works by others, are essential to photographic creation. Factors such as the photographer’s background and profession, the choice of shooting location, and the thematic approach all influence the creative process. Critical review, which has been understood as a form of academic reflection or "know-that" in Nelson’s framework, plays a vital role in refining photographic practice. Nonetheless, Minor White’s response method proves more practical for reflecting on a photographer’s interaction with subjects, whether in their work or that of others.
