Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors that influences the accuracy of school operational fund towards the implementation of elementary education in Banjar regency. This research is descriptive and qualitative in which the questionnaire is the data collecting tool to find out the availability of acceptance, distribution mechanism, and realization of school operational fund program using prepared technical guidance. The samples are principals, teachers, school committees, and learners' parents in each district by purposive sampling technique. The results show that the acceptance and realization of school operational program in Banjar regency is in accordance with school operational fund technical guidance with some important notes where there are still school committees being lack of understanding of school operational fund technical guidelines; there are some management teams who are still having difficulty to manage the school operational fund program due to lack of understanding of technical guidances of operational school fund that often change and less master ICT, school operational fund amount insufficient for school operational requirement and for paying teacher honorarium; and there are still school components who feel receiving the donations of committees or parents' learners.

Abstract

Designing the argumentative essay test instrument based on critical thinking skills is the step to produce the writing test instrument used for measuring the students’ performance in writing the argumentative essay with critical thinking skills. This study aimed at measuring the validity and reliability of the argumentative essay writing instrument test with critical thinking skills. The procedure to create the writing test instrument credible was conducted by testing the instrument valid and reliable. The process of validating is through content validity and expert validation. The process of making the instrument reliable was done by checking the score of the students tested in trying out. The result of validating and making the instrument reliable was stated effective for use to get the data collection. Either pretest or posttest of the instrument in each component is stated reliable and it affirms the reliability of the instrument. The notes from the validator of the instrument are in line with the statistics stating that the instrument can be used for collecting the data. As a result, the writing test instrument was ready to use for the research. It is suggested that this instrument can be used for other relevant issues and studied more deeply for the next relevant studies.

Abstract

This study aims to assess strategies of performing critical thinking in an argumentative essay to a number of selected scientific articles. The method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach with systematic literature review. Manual coding is used to map and get the relevant data to tabulate; content analysis is used to analyze the data. The result study says that critical thinking used in writing argumentative essay is effected by the experience of writing, background of knowledge of the author, and the awareness to respond to the issue. Consequently, the sharpness of the argumentative essay with critical thinking for each author is different.

Abstract

This study delves into the correlation between critical thinking and input ability skills within the framework of debate. While debate often highlights spontaneous and responsive skills, the overlooked essential is the input ability, encompassing tasks like confirming information, summarizing, and catching details. These skills precede output ability and are crucial in effective debating. Drawing from sources spanning the past decade, this qualitative research employs the narrative inquiry method to explore the role of critical thinking in language input ability. Data collection involves questionnaires targeting students with debate experience, focusing on the impact of input and output skills on their debating. Utilizing interviews, the research reveals that a balance between input and output abilities is vital for successful debate performance. The result is participants have different points of view in choosing whether input or output which affects their critical thinking mostly, the strategies they used, the importance of output and input abilities, and emotional intelligence, it shows the need for strategies to enhance input abilities alongside output skills to gain maximum potential in debate. Future research aims to develop methods for fostering balanced improvement in input abilities, shifting from a sole focus on output proficiency.

Abstract

The process of learning languages has experienced and improved rapidly as a result of the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. A specific area that has shown the improvement is the integration of this AI in EFL learning. The purpose of this systematic review is to investigate and to explore current research on the limitations of using ChatGPT as a writing assistance tool for EFL writing activities from different nations in the world. The PRISMA 2020 checklist was employed in this research. DOAJ, ERIC, and Google Scholar as international article databases were used to select research articles being analyzed. Fifteen articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected. The analysis of these articles showed that ChatGPT has three main limitations in writing area. First, 7 of 15 articles report that it cannot fully assist students throughout the writing process. Secondly, 10 of 15 articles present an issue concerning over-reliance and writing originality. Finally, 4 of 15 articles mention that the feedback given by ChatGPT is inaccurate in some cases. This research concludes that EFL teachers should accompany and assist their students in using technology for writing activities. Its application should be advisable, wise, and considering the specific writing context

Abstract

Conveying messages to the listeners not only can be done by conversation or discussion but also can be done in some ways like song, drama, and poem. Every song has the potential to tell a story, but only a select few possess the ability to touch our souls and leave an indelible mark on our hearts. Coldplay's featuring BTS 'My Universe’ is undeniably one of those rare gems. At its core, this song is a symphony of emotions, a melodic embrace during times of turmoil. In this study, the researchers try to figure out figurative language used in Coldplay’s Song Entitled 'My Universe’ feat BTS (one of the hits Korean boy bands in the world). This research uses qualitative research methodology because this research describes and finds out figurative language that is used in Coldplay’s song. Based on the lyrics, here is the figurative language used in Coldplay Song entitled My Universe. There are metaphors, repetition, imagery, hyperbole, and symbolism. All of the figurative language used in the lyric show that the lyric has beautiful meaning like this sentence “you are my star and my universe”. This sentence contains of hyperbole because the writer of this song uses my star and my universe to describe someone he loved in words. The figurative language used in the song makes the lyric more attractive and artistic for the listeners. Moreover, figurative language also used to make the words in the song more beautiful when it was delivered with the music.
