Abstract

This study investigates the key determinants of Islamic FinTech adoption by extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) framework to include Perceived Sharia Compliance and Perceived Innovativeness as antecedent variables. A quantitative approach was employed using survey data from 380 Islamic bank customers in Indonesia who had experience with Islamic FinTech services. The findings reveal that both antecedent variables positively influence Perceived Ease of Use and Perceived Usefulness, confirming the relevance of both religious values and innovation perceptions in shaping users’ attitudes. Consistent with TAM, Perceived Ease of Use impacts Perceived Usefulness and Behavioral Intention, while Perceived Usefulness is a key driver of customers’ intention to utilize Islamic FinTech services. Additionally, Behavioral Intention significantly predicts Actual Adoption, which subsequently enhances Customers’ Satisfaction. Mediation analysis results further shows that Behavioral Intention partially mediates the relationships between TAM beliefs and Actual Adoption. This study has contributed to the growing body of Islamic banking literature by enriching the TAM framework with culturally relevant and innovation-oriented constructs. The findings provide important insights for Islamic banks and FinTech service providers, highlighting the needs to develop Shariacompliant, user-friendly, and technologically advanced services to drive customers’ adoption and satisfaction. Recommendations and future studies directions are also discussed.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of sustainable tourism development in the Philippines through a qualitative investigation of stakeholder perspectives in two leading ecotourism destinations: Palawan and Bohol. Despite the country’s growing emphasis on sustainability within national tourism policy, the actual practices and local interpretations of sustainable tourism remain understudied. Using a grounded theory approach, this study draws on twenty semi-structured interviews with local government officials, community leaders, tourism workers, and NGO representatives to uncover how sustainability is constructed and challenged in the Philippine context. The findings reveal five key themes: community empowerment, cultural and environmental stewardship, tensions with mass tourism, fragmented governance, and the mediating role of external actors. While local values such as “bayanihan” support sustainable practices, gaps in institutional coordination and unchecked commercial development hinder implementation. The study highlights the importance of integrating indigenous knowledge, ensuring local participation, and strengthening multi-level policy coherence. This paper contributes to the discourse on sustainable tourism in developing nations by emphasizing bottom-up approaches and culturally embedded models of tourism development. It offers practical implications for policymakers, destination managers, and development organizations seeking to align tourism growth with ecological protection and community well-being in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian contexts.

Abstract

In Indonesia's tourism industry, where workforce diversity is high and service excellence is essential, the urgency to implement inclusive and equitable workplace practices is increasingly critical. Many tourism businesses still struggle to translate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts into meaningful employee outcomes, creating a pressing need for empirical investigation. This study aims to examine the influence of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on employee engagement and organizational commitment, incorporating psychological safety as a mediating variable and leadership style as a moderating variable. A quantitative research design was adopted using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data were collected through purposive sampling from 350 employees in hotels, travel agencies, and hospitality services across Indonesia, all with at least one year of experience in the tourism sector. The analysis confirms that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion significantly enhances employee engagement and commitment. Psychological safety serves as a robust mediator, while leadership style significantly strengthens these relationships. Furthermore, both engagement and commitment positively affect employee retention. The study’s novelty lies in modeling Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as a higher-order construct and empirically testing its indirect and interaction effects in the context of Indonesia's tourism industry. These findings make theoretical contributions to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion literature and provide practical insights for promoting inclusive workplace policies that foster long-term workforce stability.
