Abstract

Strongyloidiasis, caused by the nematode Strongyloides stercoralis, can lead to severe complications, including hyperinfection syndrome and disseminated disease, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. However, data on its epidemiology and clinical significance in Indonesia remain scarce and outdated. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of S. stercoralis, identify potential sources of infection, and explore associated risk factors. A case series of strongyloidiasis was identified during a soil-transmitted helminth survey conducted in two villages in Banjar District, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, between May and July 2024. S. stercoralis larvae were detected in four individuals out of 224 fecal samples (1.8%) using the Baermann funnel method, with confirmation via quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). All infected individuals were female farmers who reported nonspecific clinical symptoms. Subsequent environmental sampling revealed viable S. stercoralis larvae in soil from one of the villages. The detection of asymptomatic, infected individuals suggests that humans serve as reservoirs for ongoing transmission. In the context of open defecation practices, sustained transmission is likely unless targeted interventions are implemented. Urgent actions are needed, including community education and the provision of basic sanitation infrastructure such as latrines and access to clean water. These interventions are especially critical given that ivermectin—the first-line treatment for strongyloidiasis—is not currently available in Indonesia.

Abstract

Penyakit kulit merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang umum dijumpai. Penyakit kulit tidak hanya berdampak pada kesehatan fisik, tetapi juga pada kualitas hidup dan kesejahteraan psikososial individu. Desa Banyu Urip merupakan desa di Kecamatan Tanjung Lago yang merupakan daerah lahan basah dengan penyakit terkait air merupakan salah satu keluhan yang umum dijumpai. Di wilayah pedesaan dan daerah dengan keterbatasan akses layanan kesehatan, permasalahan kulit seringkali tidak mendapatkan penanganan yang memadai, baik karena minimnya pengetahuan masyarakat maupun keterbatasan tenaga medis yang kompeten di bidang dermatologi dan venereologi. Sebagai bagian dari peran institusi pendidikan dalam mendukung program pemerintah mengenai kampus berdampak serta meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan masyarakat, kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan melakukan konsultasi kesehatan, pengisian kuesioner serta menyampaikan edukasi yang relevan dengan kesehatan kulit. Pasien juga mendapatkan obat gratis sesuai peresepan dokter spesialis. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 100 orang masyarakat Desa Banyu Urip, 12 diantaranya memiliki keluhan kulit. Berdasarkan hasil survei, keluhan kulit paling banyak adalah eksim yang merupakan salah satu penyakit kulit yang sering dijumpai di daerah lahan basah. Kegiatan ini dilakukan sebagai salah satu upaya promotif dan preventif berbasis komunitas. Edukasi mengenai kesehatan kulit diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai kesehatan kulit. Keterbatasan akses masyarakat pedesaan terhadap pelayanan medis terutama oleh Dokter Spesialis mengakibatkan perlunya kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan secara berkala.

Abstract

Helminth infections remain a significant public health problem, particularly in areas with limited sanitation. The success of deworming programs is strongly influenced by community behavior, which is partly determined by the level of knowledge. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge of helminth infections and deworming medication-taking behavior among residents of Gasing Village, Banyuasin. This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 44 respondents selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a structured questionnaire. The results were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with the Chi-square test applied to assess the association between variables. The findings showed that 40,9% of respondents had a good level of knowledge regarding helminth infections, and 68,2% demonstrated good deworming medication-taking behavior. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between knowledge of helminth infections and deworming medication-taking behavior (p=0.001). Strengthening community health education is necessary to improve adherence to deworming medication, thereby supporting helminth infection control programs.

Abstract

 Lymphatic filariasis remains a public health challenge in tropical wetland ecosystems, where mosquito resting ecology is still poorly understood despite its importance for vector survival and control effectiveness. This study analyzed resting behavior, species composition, and spatial heterogeneity across four endemic villages in Banyuasin, Indonesia. A total of 2,752 mosquitoes representing 26 species were collected, dominated by Mansonia uniformis, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, Culex vishnui, and Mansonia annulifera, accounting for over 70% of individuals. Spatial patterns revealed that vegetation-rich wetlands favored Mansonia, while agricultural landscapes supported Culex species. Most dominant species exhibited exophilic resting behavior, whereas Culex quinquefasciatus showed more endophilic tendencies. Peak resting activity occurred between 19:00 and 22:00. Although no infective filarial larvae were detected, the high abundance of competent vectors suggests continued transmission potential. These findings highlight the importance of integrating resting ecology and landscape heterogeneity into comprehensive vector surveillance and control strategies.

Abstract

Aktivitas fisik merupakan komponen penting dalam mendukung tumbuh kembang anak usia dini, namun perubahan pola bermain akibat peningkatan penggunaan gawai menyebabkan menurunnya aktivitas gerak anak. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi aktivitas fisik dan keterampilan motorik anak usia 3–6 tahun melalui Permainan Edukasi Sigimbang Begesah di PAUD KB Al Hidayah Gasing, Kabupaten Banyuasin. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi literasi cerita edukatif melalui buku serial Sigimbang Begesah berjudul “Aktivitas Fisik”, permainan ular tangga edukatif, demonstrasi gerak sederhana, serta keterlibatan guru dalam integrasi aktivitas fisik ke dalam pembelajaran harian. Sebanyak 73 anak dan 6 guru berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan motorik: 90% anak mampu mengikuti gerakan dengan benar, 93% menunjukkan peningkatan koordinasi tubuh, dan 96% mampu melakukan gerakan melompat dan berlari kecil secara stabil. Kegiatan ini juga meningkatkan pemahaman guru mengenai pentingnya aktivitas fisik serta strategi penerapannya di lingkungan PAUD. Program pengabdian ini membuktikan bahwa pendekatan literasi dan permainan edukatif efektif membangun kebiasaan hidup aktif serta mendukung perkembangan motorik, kognitif, dan sosial-emosional anak. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan sederhana berbasis literasi dan permainan edukatif memiliki potensi besar sebagai intervensi efektif, berkelanjutan, dan mudah diadaptasi untuk membentuk perilaku hidup aktif sejak usia dini.
