Abstract

This study aimed to identify the factors influencing neck pain complaints among garment convection tailors in Medan City. A total of 44 tailors from a convection workshop on Jl. Denai were included as the study's population and sample, utilizing a total sampling technique. The research employed a cross-sectional analytical survey design with data analysis using the Chi-Square test. The findings from the bivariate analysis showed a significant association between neck pain complaints and three key factors: years of service (p=0.021), work duration (p=0.044), and work posture (p=0.000). Specifically, a higher percentage of severe neck pain was found in workers with fewer years of service and longer work durations (more than 8 hours a day). The analysis also revealed that age (p=0.717) and lighting (p=0.062) were not statistically significant factors. A subsequent multivariate analysis identified work posture and work duration as independent factors influencing neck pain, with work posture being the most dominant variable (p=0.000). The multivariate analysis for work posture had an odds ratio of 64.346, indicating a strong positive correlation with severe neck pain. However, a contradictory result for work duration in the multivariate analysis suggested a need for re-examination of its coding. The study concludes that workload, work duration, and working posture are the primary factors influencing neck pain complaints in convection tailors, with work posture being the most dominant. These findings highlight the importance of ergonomic interventions, proper posture, and regulated work hours to mitigate occupational health risks in this population.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases worldwide with a global prevalence of 9.38% for all age groups, particularly affecting medical students who experience high academic stress and irregular sleep patterns. Despite numerous studies investigating the relationship between sleep quality and acne vulgaris, research findings show significant inconsistencies. This study aimed to identify the relationship between sleep quality and acne vulgaris severity among medical students at Prima Indonesia University batch 2022. A cross-sectional analytical observational study was conducted using quantitative methods. The population consisted of all medical students from batch 2022 (199 students) with a sample of 67 respondents determined using the Slovin formula with 90% confidence level. Simple random sampling technique was applied with inclusion criteria of students with acne vulgaris who were willing to participate. Data collection used validated instruments: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality and Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) to assess acne severity. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 29 with univariate and bivariate analysis using Chi-square test. Results showed that 70.1% of respondents had good sleep quality and 92.5% had mild acne severity. The Chi-square test revealed no significant relationship between sleep quality and acne vulgaris severity (p-value = 0.994, p > 0.05). This study concludes that sleep quality does not significantly affect acne vulgaris severity in medical students, suggesting that multifactorial approaches focusing on stress management, dietary patterns, skin hygiene, and cosmetic use may be more effective for acne management.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic endocrine disorder characterized by an imbalance in the immune system, with a growing prevalence both globally and in Indonesia. The predominant risk factors for T2DM are sex, age, obesity, smoking, and physical inactivity. Complications of DM can be categorized into microvascular and macrovascular, with higher prevalence rates observed in women and the elderly. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of patients diagnosed with DM at Royal Prima General Hospital in 2023. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was employed, with data collected between May and July 2024. A total of 68 patients were selected using the Slovin formula. The inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed with DM and complete medical records, while the exclusion criteria included incomplete data, deceased patients, or those without complications. Univariate descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. The majority of the 68 patients were aged > 60 years (55.9%) and female (63.2%). The most common occupation was homemaker/unemployed (47.1%), and a significant proportion of the patients had a normal body mass index (86.8%). Microvascular complications were the most prevalent, affecting 54.4% of the patients. Advanced age, female sex, and low physical activity were the dominant factors influencing DM prevalence at Royal Prima General Hospital. Microvascular complications are a major health concern in DM patients.

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is a common skin disorder in adolescents and young adults, characterized by the presence of non-inflammatory and inflammatory lesions on the pilosebacebase unit. This condition is influenced by various factors such as hormonal, genetic, stress, and diet. Coffee as a caffeinated beverage is widely consumed by college students, so it is interesting to research its relationship with the severity of acne vulgaris. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of coffee consumption on the severity of acne vulgaris in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Prima Indonesia class of 2022–2024. Methods: This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out through the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) questionnaire to assess coffee consumption and the Global Acne Grading System (GAGS) to assess the severity of acne vulgaris. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The majority of respondents were female (70%) and had a moderate level of coffee consumption (56.7%). The most severe acne vulgaris was found in the mild category (60%). The bivariate test showed a value of p = 0.057 (>0.05), which indicates that there is no significant relationship between coffee consumption and the severity of acne vulgaris. Conclusion: Coffee consumption was not significantly related to the severity of acne vulgaris in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Prima Indonesia. Other factors such as the type of coffee, drink mix, diet, stress, and genetic predisposition may also affect the onset of acne vulgaris.
