Abstract

The curriculum is a fundamental yet often overlooked aspect of education, serving as the core of the learning process. It must be evaluated innovatively and dynamically to align with technological advancements and evolving societal needs. As technology progresses, education must adapt to equip future generations with relevant skills for global competition. A flexible, student-centered curriculum is essential, tailored to learners’ needs, interests, and experiences. This study employs library research, analyzing books, journals, and articles to explore educational challenges in Indonesia, including curriculum issues, corruption in funding, limited teaching hours, and restrictive teacher autonomy in lesson design. Potential solutions are drawn from successful models in Finland, Germany, and Australia, whose adaptable and equitable education systems could offer valuable insights for Indonesia. By addressing these challenges through evidence-based reforms, Indonesia can enhance its educational framework, ensuring it meets contemporary demands while fostering student-centered learning.

Abstract

Background: English for Specific Purpose (ESP) plays a significant role in developing the student's English language skills in writing, reading, speaking, and listening. In Indonesia, English has been learned since the students were in early education to a higher level, however, they are found less confident in using English for communicating especially in ESP classMethods: This research is conducted to find a suitable method to increase the student's self-confidence and enhance their language skills through the appropriate approach called Project Based Learning (PBL). This PBL focuses on the student's oral performance during the Final Test project, which employs technology to reach its purpose and it is conducted online during the pandemic. This study used Kurt Lewin's Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research methodology consisting of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subjects of this study were 30 Civil Engineering students in semester 2 of the 2020/2021 academic year. Classroom observation, interview, and teacher evaluation using the National Council Teacher of English (NCTE) Oral presentation rubric are used as the data collectionResults:  The finding shows that students' confidence increased therefore it enhanced their language skills ability through this PBL activity along with the teacher's support and motivation during the whole semester. Conclusion:  Project Based-Learning significantly affects the student's language development, including building their confidence and improving their motivation in using English contextually and creatively without fear of making mistakes. Moreover, Project Based-Learning helps the students feel relaxed and comfortable in ESP class, yet they found it challenging simultaneously.

Abstract

Cultural acculturation provides a discourse for strategic renewal to enhance the effectiveness of the teaching of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This study aims to identify a strategic model of PAI teaching at MAN 1 Bengkulu City by positioning local wisdom as a source of relevant values to strengthen students' understanding and character formation. The research employs a qualitative, descriptive survey approach. Key informants include PAI teachers, students, the school principal, and local customary leaders or cultural experts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis, and then analyzed thematically. The study identified local wisdom values such as togetherness, deliberation, mutual cooperation, and respect for parents as being strongly aligned with Islamic moral principles. The integration of these values was achieved through the selection of effective cultural practices as learning media, modification of learning activities, and provision of space for student reflection. Contextual learning strategies oriented toward cognitive achievement were implemented using Project-Based Learning and Problem-Based Learning methods. Meanwhile, in-depth character formation encourages students to develop an Islamic identity that harmonizes with local culture. The study suggests that integrating local culture offers a new direction for Islamic Religious Education (PAI), making it more relevant to contemporary social and cultural challenges.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the influence of spiritual motivation and institutional support on teaching efficacy among volunteer teachers in pesantren across Jambi Province, Indonesia. A cross-sectional survey design was employed, involving 218 volunteer teachers from 24 pesantren. Data were collected using adapted instruments measuring spiritual motivation, perceived institutional support, basic psychological needs satisfaction (autonomy, competence, relatedness), and teaching efficacy. Structural equation modeling (SEM) with partial least squares (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. The results reveal that spiritual motivation significantly and positively influenced teaching efficacy (β = 0.39, p < 0.001), both directly and through the mediation of satisfaction of basic psychological needs. Institutional support also exerted a significant positive effect on teaching efficacy (β = 0.31, p < 0.001), primarily mediated by the satisfaction of competence and relatedness needs. The interaction between spiritual motivation and institutional support produced a synergistic effect that enhances the fulfillment of all three basic psychological needs. These findings extended SDT by demonstrating that spiritually grounded intrinsic motivation, when coupled with structured institutional support, creates an optimal motivational ecology for volunteer teachers in faith-based educational settings. The implications of this study indicated that PBL can be used as an effective alternative learning model to improve students’ learning outcomes and social attitudes in Islamic integrated elementary schools
