Abstract

Background: The high protein content in hybrid corn is needed by the body to support health, so the quality of production must be carefully maintained. Terra preta is a type of fertile soil that can enhance nutrient retention through biochar, thereby improving agricultural production both in terms of quality and sustainable quantity.Objective: To analyze the potential use of Terra Preta in increasing the protein content of hybrid corn.Methods: The research was conducted from September to December 2023. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) method with 2 treatment levels (0 tons/ha and 15 tons/ha of terra preta). Each treatment was replicated 3 times, resulting in 12 experimental plots. Corn planting was carried out in Tolengas Village, Sumedang, and protein content testing was conducted at the UPTD Testing and Application of Product Quality (PPMPP) of the Fisheries and Marine Office, Cirebon City, West Java Province.Results: Hybrid corn treated with terra preta showed better growth in terms of plant height, stem diameter, and number of leaves compared to corn without terra preta. There was a significant difference in the protein content analysis of hybrid corn (p = 0,01, 95% CI = 7,322–11,001). The protein content of hybrid corn seeds treated with 0 tons/ha of terra preta (9,31%) was higher than that treated with 15 tons/ha of terra preta (9,02%). Conclusion: The highest protein content was observed in the 0 tons/ha treatment (9,31%). Terra preta benefits plant growth but does not contribute to increased protein content.

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescence is a crucial period in the life cycle that requires special attention to nutrition and health. Adolescents in Islamic boarding schools are vulnerable to nutritional problems due to limited access to information and unbalanced eating habits. Objective: The purpose of this service was to increase adolescents’ awareness and knowledge regarding nutritional status and the importance of balanced nutrition through nutritional assessment and consultation. Method: The community service program was carried out at KHAS Kempek Islamic Boarding School with participants aged 13–18 years. The method included nutritional status assessment through weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference measurements. Afterward, participants received individual nutrition counseling for 10–15 minutes focusing on balanced diet education. The activity was supported with educational media such as leaflets, food models, and questionnaires. Evaluation was conducted using pre–post tests and feedback to measure improvements in knowledge and awareness among adolescents. Result: The results indicated that most adolescents had a normal nutritional status. Nutrition consultations also contributed to increased awareness and knowledge about healthy and balanced eating. Conclusion: This activity demonstrated that educational and participatory approaches can support health promotion efforts among adolescents in boarding school settings.

Abstract

Usia produktif adalah usia dimana tingkat kesibukan itu meningkat dan gaya hidup yang tidak begitu sehat menjadi suatu kebiasan. Hal demikian menyebabkan berbagai macam penyakit itu muncul pada saat memasuki usia produktif salah satunya hipertensi. Perilaku yang mencerminkan gaya hidup tidak sehat diantaranya yaitu asupan zat gizi makro itu mempengaruhi tekanan darah. Asupan zat gizi makro yang berlebihan dapat   menyebabkan penurunan  ekskresi  natrium    pada  urin,  hal  ini  akan  mengakibatkan  natrium  tertumpuk  dalam  darah sehingga terjadi peningkatan tekanan darah. Konsumsi buah dan sayur itu juga dapat memicu tekanan darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan asupan zat gizi makro, konsumsi buah dan sayur dengan tekanan darah  usia produktif 20-59 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan analitik observasional, dengan desain cross-sectional. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari 2024 di Mts, Smp, MA dan SMK KHAS Kempek Cirebon. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan consecutive  sampling dengan jumlah sampel 129 orang. Kuesuiner tekanan darah menggunakan alat Sphygmomanometer. Data asupan zat gizi makro dan konsumsi buah sayur menggunakan formulir food frequency questionnire (FFQ) semi kuantitatif. Analisis data menggunakan uji rank spearman dengan nilai signifikansi p < 0.05. berdasarkan analisis bivariat diperoleh bahwa karbohidrat (p = 0.001), protein (p =0.014), lemak (p=0.001) berhubungan signifikan dengan tekanan darah (p < 0.05). namun konsumsi buah  dan sayur itu tidak berhubungan signifikan dengan tekanan darah (p > 0.05). Kesimpulannya bahwa karbohidrat, protein dan lemak berhubungan dengan tekanan darah sedangkan buah dan sayur tidak berhubungan signifikan.
