Abstract

Meaningful mathematics instruction enables students to autonomously construct mathematical concepts and discern their relevance to real-world contexts. The Ethno-Realistic Mathematics Education (E-RME) approach advances this objective by embedding cultural and contextual dimensions within the curriculum, thereby fostering critical thinking and deepening conceptual mastery. This study investigated the efficacy of the E-RME approach in enhancing the critical thinking capacities of primary school pupils. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 308 pupils from diverse primary schools, allocated to experimental and control groups. Assessment was conducted using the Generalised Partial Credit Model (GPCM), which facilitates polytomous scoring of two-tier test items to capture nuanced responses. Data were analysed using JASP software to evaluate pupils’ conceptual understanding and reasoning proficiency based on their tiered responses. The findings revealed that the E-RME approach significantly outperformed the conventional instructional model in promoting conceptual understanding and critical thinking, even after adjusting for baseline performance via ANCOVA. These results underscore that superior learning outcomes derive not only from the mathematical content delivered but also from pedagogical strategies that meaningfully integrate mathematics with pupils’ cultural identities and lived experiences

Abstract

The academic problems in this research are in the form of moral problems in the world of education that have not been resolved properly, so there needs to be a review related to affective in adolescence to morals in schools because the better the affective aspect among adolescent students, the better the morals. This research is included in qualitative-library research with a descriptive causal analysis method to explore and identify the relationship between adolescent affective aspects such as emotions, attitudes, values, and feelings with symptoms of moral decadence that occur among them. The results of the study show that juvenile delinquency in the school environment is a manifestation of moral decadence that correlates with the characteristics of the development of the affective domain of adolescents, where changes in the domain that are not handled appropriately contribute to deviant behavior that violates social norms.

Abstract

The phenomenon of radicalism in Indonesia is a serious challenge to the integrity of the nation. Traditional Islamic educational institutions such as Islamic Boarding Schools have a strategic role in counteracting the spread of radicalism. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic Boarding Schools in preventing radicalism through a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study show that Islamic Boarding Schools with an Islamic moderation-based curriculum, exemplary kiai, as well as cultural and spiritual approaches are able to become effective ideological fortresses. The role of Islamic Boarding Schools is not only as educational institutions, but also as agents of peace and guardians of national values. This study recommends strengthening the synergy between the government and Islamic Boarding Schools in building a peaceful and inclusive Islamic narrative.

Abstract

This study explores the role of the tahlilan tradition in the actualization of Islamic educational values within the community, particularly in Sidomulyo Hamlet, Tanggungharjo Village, Grobogan District, Grobogan Regency. Tahlilan, a long-standing tradition, is often a subject of debate within the community, with some accusing it of being heretical and viewing it as an act of shirk, considering it an evil that must be eradicated. This research aims to delve deeper into how tahlilan functions not only as a religious ritual but also as a means of actualizing Islamic educational values, while simultaneously strengthening social cohesion within society. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed in this study, involving interviews with religious leaders, observation of tahlilan practices, and documentation of relevant activities. The findings indicate that tahlilan serves as a medium to remind individuals of death and fosters stronger social and spiritual connections among participants. Moreover, tahlilan also acts as a tool for da’wah, enhancing the understanding of Islamic values and encouraging the practice of righteous deeds in everyday life. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of Islamic education, particularly in understanding the role of local traditions as an effective educational tool beyond formal institutions.
