Abstract

Integration becomes a solution when global government does not have capability to overcome power domination of state. By having integration, it is expected that all of member state can put all their authority in supranational governance, such as European Union (EU) so balance could be happen. By giving such kind of integration, the agreement of policies can be followed by the members of EU based on solidarity and tolerance among the members. However, this integration has not succeeded in reducing domination of country sovereignty that influences the variety of each country necessity, even it happen in not powerful state. This phenomenon is reflected when Greece broke the agreement of EU policy related to refugees protection, called Common European Asylum System (CEAS), by refuse asylum seekers from Syria. There are two things that must be highlighted when Greece refuse asylum seekers from Syria. First, domestic problem that can restrain Greece government in obeying CEAS policies. Second, the value of tolerance and solidarity from other countries has not be adhered in the policies agreed by each members of EU. Therefore, this paper explain further about studies to find the relationship between integration in supranational governance and country sovereignty.

Abstract

In China, Han Kitab is an example in how Chinese culture and Islam recognized each other. Ancient Chinese culture is not omitted but enriched by Islam. Confucianism and Islam are different in its each teaching but may crisscross philosophically. Both may come from different backgrounds but both teach people how to behave as individual and part of society. In Indonesia, Islam Nusantara is how Indonesian culture is understood through Islamic perspective. Islam which came later must face many ancient rituals or thoughts. It could not totally eliminate local culture but it can clear up bad aspect of local habits by teaching Islamic way of life. Both Han Kitab and Islam Nusantara shows that Islam did not come to apply such system by force, but it builds such apprehension through acculturation.

Abstract

About 4.6 million Ukrainians were forced to migrate to several European countries. This number is about four times the number of Syrian refugees seeking asylum in Europe. With a ratio of 1:4, European countries are more likely to accept Ukraine refugees in larger numbers, and this raises the assumption that there is a double standard among European countries in treating refugees between Ukraine and Syria. This assumption is primarily based on issues of race, religion, culture, and even politics. However, humanism's universal view neglected partialism and viewed humans as members of the human family who did not leave others behind. Furthermore, the Europeans who invented the concept of humanism itself, in reality, did not implement the concept universally but only in the European region. Therefore, with a descriptive-qualitative approach, this paper aims to emphasize that regional solidarity can go beyond universal humanitarian impulses. The theory of universal humanism is used as the primary standard in analyzing the phenomenon of the European double standard. It can be said that even though the Ukraine-Russia crisis has the potential to cause high inflation with slow growth, Europeans are still making solid efforts to help refugees from Ukraine. In other words, regional solidarity seems to be more of a priority than universal humanitarian impulses. Keywords: Regional Solidarity, Universal Humanism, Refugees, Russian Invasion, Syria, Ukraine   Sekitar 4,6 juta orang Ukraina terpaksa bermigrasi ke beberapa negara Eropa. Abstract

The dichotomy of public and private is always related to the binary oppositions of women and men in social realms. Men are always the representation of the public because masculinity emphasises public discourse, war, and peace, and vice versa with women. Consequently, exploring how women position themselves within the international public sphere is imperative, particularly as the boundary between the public and private realms becomes increasingly blurred. This article argues that women could play a crucial role in this more complex public-private dichotomy while facing the international realm. Nation-states have a role as publics domestically but then change their status quo and become private internationally. Besides, the increasing female population in the world also suggests that women's involvement should be considered in any decision-making process. With the help of deductive qualitative analysis and evidence from some parts of the world, this article shows that women should get more involved in the international public realm. At the same time, the public-private dichotomy becomes even more blurred. The increasing level of women's involvement, the blurred public-private dichotomy, and the procrastinating women's involvement are essential evidence of the argument of this article. Instead of debating sexual clichés, this article aims to show that women's involvement nowadays in the international public realm could be a strategic move by a nation-state regarding the domination of private and even public realms.

Abstract

This study reveals the practice of articulation of ascetic politics carried out by Gus Mus amidst the strong democratic regime that dictated the process of contestation of power at the NU Congress in 2015 in Jombang. The practice of articulation of asceticism is political, because he always changes his identity. As a subject, Gus Mus often changes positions, such as a kiai and a cultural figure. This position is called the subject position. This study explores the creation of a new identity in contemporary politics using Laclau’s articulation theory within a post-structuralist case study research design. Therefore, the main argument in this study is that through the political articulation of asceticism, Gus Mus’ political reasoning transcends the Laswellian mainstream political reasoning. This study uses a qualitative method, with two methods in data collection, namely interview and documentation methods. The informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques, and data analysis used discourse analysis which was completely within the theoretical frame used by the researcher. This study does not only shift from a positivist paradigm to a post-positivism research, but from a focus on thoughts to a focus on the discourse articulated by Gus Mus from the perspective of actors from both the NU 2015 Congress committee and the NU elite in Jombang, and from here, the novelty in this study. In this study, the political practice of asceticism articulated by Gus Mus was found in: a). Discourse in the articulation of intellectualism, b). Modesty, c). Beyond practical politics, and d). Consistency in cultural politics. From here, “new political ethics” is relevant and vital as an alternative political thought for recent political actors.

Abstract

This article examines how Barasuara's composition "Hagia" contributes to promoting religious tolerance and orientational pluralism in Indonesia, aiming to comprehend the manifestation of these concepts within the musical piece. The study uses qualitative methods and Heim's theoretical frameworks to show that the lyrics of "Hagia" show a diverse and pluralistic ethos by focusing on a number of different points of view and themes that help create an environment where religious tolerance can thrive. The study results indicate that cultivating a pluralistic understanding through music can foster acceptance and inclusivity among individuals of different religious backgrounds. Furthermore, the article argues that the influence of religion may vary between younger and older individuals. "Hagia" transcends relativism by advocating for active consideration and recognition of others' beliefs, thereby suggesting that a pluralistic understanding can aid individuals in becoming more accepting and inclusive of their religion as well as others, or what can be called religious tolerance. This study contributes to a more nuanced comprehension of societal responsibilities in fostering a more inclusive and tolerant society. It facilitates a more comprehensive understanding of the subject matter at hand.

Abstract

The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine triggered an unexpected migration pattern, as some Ukrainians chose Bali, Indonesia, as their destination, challenging traditional distinctions between refugees and tourists. This study explores whether we should classify Ukrainians in Bali as refugees, given their tourist-like destination choices and behavior patterns. Through qualitative methodologies including content analysis, semi-structured interviews, observation, and migration theory analysis, the research reveals that Ukrainian presence in Bali aligns more closely with tourism than refugee characteristics, based on lifestyle-driven motivations, variable duration of stay, and destination choice preferences. The economic and social activities of Ukrainians in Bali resemble those of lifestyle migrants more than they do typical refugee patterns. The findings suggest that policy frameworks should maintain tourism-based approaches while acknowledging these migrants' complex circumstances and that traditional refugee-tourist classifications require revision to accommodate cases where conflict displacement intersects with lifestyle-based destination choices.
