Abstract

This study aims to describe parents’ understanding in creating healthy food variations at Ulak Rengas State Rural Kindergarten, North Lampung. The focus is on parents’ knowledge, awareness, and skills in selecting, processing, and serving nutritious food creatively to increase children’s eating interest. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied with 19 parents of children aged 5–6 years as participants. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that most parents are aware of the importance of a healthy diet, yet creativity in food presentation remains limited. Major challenges include time constraints, lack of ideas, and children’s picky eating habits. Furthermore, some parents still lack precise knowledge of balanced nutrition portions. Parenting programs involving nutritionists and medical staff at schools were considered effective in enhancing parental knowledge. The study highlights the need for more intensive education to encourage parents’ creativity in meeting children’s nutritional needs, thereby supporting their optimal growth and development.
