Abstract

Background: Approximately 90% of women in Indonesia have the potential to experience fluor albus. Fluor albus is mostly caused by Candida Albicans. Candida Albicans is a fungus that often causes infections on people. Herbal medicine is one alternative that can be used as a raw material for anti-fungial medication of Candida Albicans. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine effectiveness of rose flower (Rosa Chinensis Jacq) on Candida Albicans colonies. Methods: This research was an experimental study with posttest only control group design, using four repetitions with a concentration of 7.5%, 10%, 12.5%, 15% and 17.5%. The hypothesis test used was One-way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) with a significance level of 0.05.Results: The result shows that 7.5% concentration, the growth of the colonies was 148.75 CFU/ml; at 10% concentration, the growth of the colonies was 123 CFU/ml; at 12.5%, the growth of the colonies was 86 CFU/ml, at 15%, the growth of the colony was 29 CFU/ml; at 17.5 %, the colony growth was 0, so it can be concluded the higher concentration of rose extract, the lower number of Candida Albicans colonies. Conclusion: Rose extract (Rosa Chinensis Jacq) is effective in inhibiting the growth of the Candida Albicans fungus with minimum killing levels of 17.5%. Further studies on toxicity test on rose extracts on Candida Albicans are necessary.

Abstract

One of the causes of newborn death due to complications in childbirth is premature rupture of membranes (PROM). Premature rupture of membranes can cause several complications in infants including prematurity, asphyxia, hypoxia, neonatal infection, morbidity and mortality. This study aims to identify the outcome of newborns with premature rupture of membranes at Wava Husada Hospital Kepanjen Malang. The research design used is descriptive quantitative with a retrospective approach. The sampling technique used is total sampling with a sample size of 150 respondents. The research variable is the description of newborns in mothers giving birth with premature rupture of membranes. The instruments used are medical records and checklists. The analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results showed that almost all of the babies born at term (83.3%), had normal baby weight (86.7%), had mild asphyxia (99.3%), none of the babies had newborn infections (100 %), premature rupture of membranes >12 hours (51.3%,) delivery by caesarean section (88.7%), and mothers who experienced PROM without other complications (74%). Pregnant women are expected to increase knowledge about PROM, prevention efforts, complications caused by PROM, and other conditions that aggravate these complications. Abstract

The first years of life are a golden period for brain growth and development of children, especially language. Speech and language disorders are one of the most common causes of developmental disorders in children. The aim of this study was to determine the factors that most influence language development in children aged 1 year. The design used analytic survey with cross sectional approach, with a population of 80 respondents aged 1 year, with a sample of 67 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The research instrument used a questionnaire and a Denver II sheet. Data were analyzed by logistic regression test with the results of the gender variable obtained ? value 0.013 and the care variable obtained ? value 0.044, then gender and parenting affect the language development in children aged 1 year. In an effort to reduce the prevalence of language delays in children aged 1 year, midwives should conduct early detection or monitoring language development that can be done by using Denver II to optimize children's language development. Abstract

The most important problem of adolescent reproductive health (KRR) in Indonesia is the lack of information about reproductive health, shifts in adolescent sexual behavior, poor health services and unsupportive legislation. The problem is, parents who are considered experts and experienced, have obstacles in sharing experiences due to socio-cultural factors. The purpose of this study was to describe the role of parents as providers of reproductive health information to adolescents. The research method used descriptive with a total sample of 88 respondents who were parents of teenagers aged 10-14 years in Petungsewu Village, Dau District, Malang Regency. The sampling technique used simple random sampling technique. Data collection using a questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using a frequency distribution. The results of this study were that parents played a good role in providing information about adolescents' physical changes, namely 65.9%, played a less role in providing information about adolescents' psychological changes, namely 46.6%, played a less role in providing information about the care of adolescents' reproductive organs, namely 44.3%, play a sufficient role in providing information about adolescent reproductive health problems, namely 50%, and play a less role in providing information about adolescent risky sexual behavior, namely 44.3%. Parents have an important duty and role because parents are the first and foremost teachers in educating teenagers.

Abstract

Use of contraception plays an important role in reducing maternal mortality, especially for high risk fertile age women (FAW), but from several surveys the frequency of use of non-long-term contraceptive methods (non LCM) is still more dominant. Internal factors that play a role in decision-making behavior in the use of contraceptive methods are self efficacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of self efficacy with the use of contraceptive methods in high risk FAW. Analytic survey research design with cross sectional approach, with a population of 222 respondents, sampling using simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 56 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire. Data analysis used Yate’s Correction test. The results showed there was a relationship between self efficacy and the use of contraceptive methods at high risk FAW (p value 0.046), so it was concluded that the higher the self efficacy then FAW would choose the LCM method. Integrated efforts are needed to change the belief that high-risk FAW has a higher risk of complications, so it is necessary to use the non LCM contraception to prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Abstract

Candida species, for women are the foremost common cause of parasitic contaminations. Candida species affect contamination in 75% of women and at slightest 6-9% of women involvement repetitive vulvovaginal candidiasis. Candida albicans (CA) accounts for 85-95% of yeast strains separated from the vagina. The treatment which has been administered for candida infections is antifungal drugs such as clotrimazole and fluconazole. When applied topically, synthetic antifungal drugs cause allergic reactions, resistance, and a burning sensation. It is necessary to conduct research on plant-based herbal medicine as an alternative treatment. Kemangi, also recognized as Ocimum Basilicum (OB), is a plant native to Indonesia which has medicinal properties. The objective of this study is to examine how effective OB methanol extract is against CA colonies. The study was performed at Brawijaya University's Microbiology Laboratory in Malang. The experimental laboratories with Posttest Only Control Group Design were employed in this study, with four repetitions of OB concentrations of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, and 35% against CA colonies. One-way ANOVA was utilized as the hypothesis test, with a significance level of 0.05. The results demonstrated that OB extract with a concentration of 15% was able to inhibit the growth of CA colonies. In the OB extract with a concentration of 35%, no CA colony growth was revealed. One-way ANOVA test obtained p 0.000 <0.05. Conclusion OB owns adequacy in restraining the development of CA organism with negligible murdering rate at a concentration of 35%.  Research required to be performed to identify the antifungal potential of OB extract in vivo.
