Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping the character and morals of the nation's generation, particularly in facing the challenges of globalization, technological development, and the social ethical crisis. Islamic Religious Education reform is not merely a technical change to the curriculum or learning methods, but rather a paradigm shift in understanding and reinterpreting the essence of religious education. This article aims to examine the new direction of Islamic Religious Education for the future, emphasizing six main pillars of reform: religious moderation, integration of knowledge, a critical and reflective approach, value and character formation, utilization of digital technology, and strengthening collaboration between schools, families, and the community. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature review of academic books, scientific journals, and national education policies. The results indicate that the new direction of Islamic Religious Education must be inclusive, contextual, and adaptive to current developments. A moderate, integrative, and character-based approach is considered crucial in addressing the challenges of radicalism, the dichotomy of knowledge, and moral degradation. Furthermore, the use of big data and artificial intelligence also has the potential to strengthen the personalization of Islamic Religious Education learning more effectively. Future Islamic Religious Education reforms are not only required to produce students who are religiously devout, but also capable of becoming agents of social change who are tolerant, intelligent, and virtuous.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze effective emotional control strategies to improve students' emotional intelligence in Islamic elementary schools. Emotional intelligence is an important skill that influences students' social interactions and academic achievement. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation and interviews. The research subjects consisted of students in Islamic elementary schools. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of emotional control strategies, such as self-awareness training, relaxation techniques, and effective communication, can help students recognize and manage their emotions better. In addition, an emotional intelligence development program integrated into the school curriculum has also been shown to improve students' ability to interact positively with peers and teachers. This study concludes that good emotional control contributes significantly to improving students' emotional intelligence, which in turn can support their social and academic development. Recommendations for the implementation of these strategies are expected to serve as a reference for educators in creating a learning environment that is more supportive of students' emotional development

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyses the concept of a love-based curriculum as an effort to revive the humanistic side of students within the framework of Islamic education, as well as its potential implications for the learning management system in religious educational institutions in Indonesia. This study uses a systematic literature review methodology, analysing relevant literature published mainly since 2020. Data collection involved a comprehensive examination of official policy documents from the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, academic journals, and scientific publications through databases including Google Scholar, ERIC, JSTOR, and DOAJ. The analysis used thematic categorisation to identify key conceptual elements. This study identifies three fundamental dimensions of love-based curriculum: its philosophical foundation in the Islamic concept of rahmatan lil 'alamin, its pedagogical emphasis on emotional intelligence development, and its practical implementation challenges. This study contributes to educational theory by proposing a conceptual framework that bridges Islamic educational principles with contemporary humanistic pedagogy. These findings suggest practical applications for curriculum development in religious educational institutions facing the challenges of modernisation. This study presents the first comprehensive conceptual analysis of love-based curriculum initiatives in the context of Indonesian Islamic education, offering insights that transcend religious boundaries towards broader considerations of educational reform.

Abstract

Amid globalization-induced secularization, Indonesian madrasahs such as MI Miftahul Ulum Trimoharjo face growing challenges in preserving students’ religious identity while integrating a national STEM-focused curriculum. Grounded in Berger’s secularization theory, Tajfel and Turner’s social identity theory, and al-Attas’s ta’dīb framework, this qualitative single-case study examines the impact of secularization on religious identity and the counterstrategies deployed at the institutional level. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis involving the headmaster, Islamic education (PAI) teachers, and students, and were thematically analyzed following Braun and Clarke (2006), with trustworthiness ensured via triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that secularization contributes to the erosion of tawḥīd-based values; however, the madrasah actively resists this trend through curriculum integration (e.g., infusing Islamic ethics into mathematics and science), daily worship habituation, Qur’anic literacy programs, teacher exemplarity, and structured partnerships with parents and the wider community. These strategies collectively foster improved religious awareness, discipline, and tajwīd performance, despite persistent gaps in teacher competency and variable levels of participation. Theoretically, the study enriches resilience models for Islamic education by illustrating how doctrinal, pedagogical, and communal resources can be mobilized to sustain religious identity under modernizing pressures. Practically, it offers contextually grounded and replicable strategies for similar institutions seeking to balance curricular modernization with robust Islamic formation. Acknowledging the limitations of its single-case design, the study points to the need for future multi-site and comparative research to deepen understanding of institutional responses to secularization in diverse Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of Islamic education law and policy in Indonesia and their role in enhancing educator professionalism, employing a qualitative method through an extensive literature review. The analysis reveals that Islamic education law and policy in Indonesia are continually evolving to address emerging educational needs and the demands of a rapidly changing social, technological, and global landscape. These legal and policy developments prioritize the enhancement of human resource quality, particularly educators, and exert a significant influence on the national education system through regulatory frameworks that foster character development and academic competence. Professionalism in Islamic education encompasses the advancement of educators' knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate the challenges of modern education. The legal framework plays a vital role in supporting this professionalism by establishing competency standards, implementing certification systems, and ensuring legal protection for educators. The study concludes that the synergy between evolving legal frameworks, Islamic education policies, and professional development initiatives is fundamental to improving the overall quality of education in Indonesia.
