Abstract

Karampuang Island is one of the leading marine tourism destinations in Mamuju Regency, possessing significant potential for sustainable tourism development. However, limited road infrastructure and transportation accessibility pose major challenges in spatial integration between Karampuang Island and Mamuju City. This study aims to analyze road space integration in supporting connectivity and sustainable tourism development on Karampuang Island. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with spatial planning analysis, transportation infrastructure assessment, and coastal area management policy review. The findings indicate that connectivity between Karampuang Island and Mamuju City remains limited due to inadequate transportation routes and a lack of supporting infrastructure facilities. Enhancing the quality and quantity of land and sea transportation routes, sustainable spatial planning, and integrative policies in coastal area management are essential to improving regional connectivity. Furthermore, the development of environmentally friendly road infrastructure tailored to tourist needs can support the advancement of Karampuang Island as a marine tourism destination that is better integrated with Mamuju City. Thus, optimizing road space integration not only improves accessibility but also contributes to local economic growth and coastal ecosystem sustainability.

Abstract

Natural lighting is one of the design aspects that needs attention because it greatly affects the comfort of a space and energy usage. Boarding houses are a type of residential function that faces challenges, especially during the Covid pandemic, which forced residents to stay in their rooms while still being energy efficient. Optimal use of daylight is a middle ground to address these two major challenges faced by architects today. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the design of boarding houses that have been built, particularly those located in Kendari city. The results show that the natural lighting in these boarding houses does not meet the standards and needs to increase its dimensions by 420% from the original size. This result will later serve as a consideration for designers, especially owners, when planning renovations

Abstract

Thermally comfortable tropical building designs must respond to sunlight exposure. Detailed data on the duration of sunlight exposure during the equinox and solstice periods is still limited. This study aims to analyze sunlight exposure during the equinox and solstice periods. The research was conducted using the Forma application, a 3D simulation product. The results show that the roof receives the highest sunlight exposure, reaching 9 hours per day during the equinox, while some areas of the building facade only receive exposure for less than 1 hour per day during the solstice. These findings provide important insights into the optimization of shading design and energy efficiency in tropical buildings. This research has a positive impact on architectural knowledge, demonstrating that simulation-based design can be used in creating sustainable tropical buildings

Abstract

Vatulemo Park and the Palu City Hall are two important elements in the structure of Palu city, serving as recreational public space and the center of government administration, respectively. This article aims to analyze the spatial conectivity between these two locations, focusing on physical, activity, and visual aspects. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches to identify the physical relationships, activity patterns, and visual connections between Vatulemo Park and the Palu City Hall. The findings highlight the importance of physical connectivity through pedestrian pathways and accessibility facilities, as well as the need for better management in integrating public spaces and government areas.

Abstract

Urbanisasi yang pesat di Yogyakarta telah mendorong transformasi kampung kota, termasuk Blok Sompilan di Kampung Pogung Kidul, yang kini menghadapi tekanan akibat komersialisasi lahan dan pembangunan infrastruktur kota. Permasalahan penelitian ini adalah menelaah bagaimana konfigurasi spasial Blok Sompilan terbentuk melalui praktik sosial warga serta nilai-nilai lokal yang memengaruhi pola spasialnya. Penelitian ini menganalisis produksi ruang di Blok Sompilan, Yogyakarta, dengan pendekatan teori produksi ruang Henri Lefebvre. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Blok Sompilan dibentuk oleh jaringan jalan berbentuk segitiga yang mengurung pola hunian organik dimana bagian tengah stabil sedangkan bagian tepi lebih dinamis dengan bangunan  multifungsi Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Blok Sompilan tidak tumbuh karena “kekurangan” sistem formal, melainkan merupakan hasil produksi ruang yang kompleks dan adaptif: morfologi organik terbentuk dari pewarisan lahan, pembagian kapling dan pembangunan jalan; adanya ikatan emosional terhadap kampung  mendorong  warga untuk tetap bertahan di tengah urbanisasi. Sehingga mengembangkan praktik sosial seperti ngindung serta sistem kepemilikan lahan bangunan yang tumpang-tindih (hibrid). Sehingga ruang di Sompilan adalah ruang negosiasi terus‑menerus antara kebutuhan ekonomi, nilai kultural, dan intervensi infrastruktur formal, sehingga menghasilkan konfigurasi spasial kampung kota yang dinamis.

Abstract

Vatulemo Park is a public open space that is quite popular with the people of Palu City. Vatulemo Park has the role of a park and is one of the images of Palu City. In addition, city parks can also function as city infrastructure in disaster mitigation. This study aims to analyse the level of role of Vatulemo Park as a public open space and as a space for evacuation, as well as disaster mitigation. In 2018, Palu City was hit by earthquakes, tsunamis, and liquefaction. Therefore, it is necessary to have a public open space that can be accessed by the public as an evacuation space and gathering point when a disaster occurs to increase community resilience to disasters. The method used in this study is to use a radius buffer approach based on Geographic Information System (GIS). The study was carried out by mapping the location of Vatulemo Park and measuring its coverage to the surrounding population based on the ideal mileage (500 – 1,000 cashews or 5-10 minutes walk and vehicle) from densely populated settlements. The results of the analysis show that Vatulemo Park is accessible to about 8,160 people, making it a strategic location for disaster mitigation. City parks can minimise panic and casualties in the event of a disaster. Therefore, accessibility for vulnerable groups needs to be improved, such as supporting facilities in the form of evacuation signs and lighting installations, and programs to educate when disasters occur, such as disaster simulations. Based on the results of research, Vatulemo Park has the potential to be one of the evacuation rooms and gathering points when disasters occur. Vatulemo Park is in the middle of a densely populated settlement, so it will make it easier for the community to go to the evacuation location or gathering point. Improved accessibility, infrastructure, and community preparedness will optimise the park's role as an important element in the development of disaster-resilient cities.

Abstract

The high intensity of direct solar radiation on buildings in tropical regions makes shading device design one of the most effective passive strategies for achieving optimal thermal comfort and building energy efficiency. However, the reality of current design practice in determining shading device angles tends to be generic and has not been grounded in a thorough analysis of solar path trajectories or local climatic characteristics based on ideal angle calculations. This study employs a quantitative approach through solar path analysis and solar radiation simulation across varying shading device angles on eight facade orientations of buildings in Kendari City. The findings indicate that a 30° angle is the most effective for primary facades (north, south, west, and southwest), providing ideal shading performance during the critical period of 12:00–15:45 throughout the year. Nevertheless, facades receiving dominant solar exposure during morning hours - such as the southeast, east, and northeast orientations - require larger angles of 50°–55° to achieve effective shading performance. This study contributes a set of shading device angle recommendations grounded in local climatic data, which can serve as a design reference for tropical buildings in Kendari City.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. This research examines the physical quality of sidewalks on Moh. Hatta Street in Palu City is a vital public space that is often overlooked in urban planning. The core problem lies in the low quality of these sidewalks compared to national standards and their impact on Placemaking. The study aims to analyze the physical condition of the sidewalks post-revitalization based on SNI and PUPR Guidelines, evaluate their Placemaking potential, and formulate recommendations. Using field observations and a descriptive-comparative analysis, sidewalk physical data were compared with existing standards. The results indicate that the sidewalks on Moh. Hatta Street is far below national standards in terms of width (only 17% compliant), height, and slope. Essential supporting facilities, such as lighting, seating, and crosswalk markings, were also minimal or absent. The discussion reveals that these physical discrepancies significantly hinder Placemaking potential, limiting comfort, accessibility, diverse activities, and social interaction. In conclusion, these sidewalks primarily function as transit paths, necessitating holistic interventions that integrate physical improvements with Placemaking principles to create vibrant and meaningful urban spaces.ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini mengkaji kualitas dari fisik trotoar Jalan Moh. Hatta di Kota Palu sebagai ruang publik vital, yang diabaikan dalam perancangan kota. Trotoar sebagai infrastruktur dasar perkotaan memiliki peran yang melampui dari fungsi sebagai ruang pergerakan. Trotoar bertranformasi menjadi ruang sosial vital yang mendukung interaksi dan dinamika kehidupan perkotaan. Keberadaan jalur pejalan kaki tidak hanya sebagai ruang integrasi dalam Kawasan namun area publik yang memiliki peran penting terjadinya aktivitas sosial kota. Permasalahan utama adalah rendahnya kualitas trotoar Jalan Moh. Hatta dibandingkan dengan  standar fasilitas pejalan kaki yang ada dan dampak terhadap konsep placemaking. Tujuan studi ini untuk menganalisis kondisi fisik trotoar Jalan Moh Hatta Palu dengan Standar Nasional Indonesia dan Pedoman Perencanaan Teknis Fasilitas Pejalan Kaki. Metode observasi lapangan dan analisis deskriptif komparatif, data fisik trotoar dibandingkan dengan standar.  Hasil dari analisis ini menunjukkan bahwa trotoar Jalan Moh. Hatta jauh dari kesesuaian standar nasional dan pedonman teknis fasilitas pejalan kaki. Trotoar Jalan Moh. Hatta saat ini lebih berfungsi sebagai jalur transit semata dan belum mampu bertransformasi menjadi ruang publik sebagaimana prinsip Placemaking. Pemenuhan standar teknis adalah fondasi esensial namun upaya Placemaking yang berkelanjutan memerlukan intervensi holistik yang tidak hanya memperbaiki fisik sesuai standar, tetapi juga mengintegrasikan desain yang berpusat pada manusia untuk mendorong interaksi sosial, meningkatkan kenyamanan, dan memfasilitasi beragam aktivitas yang menghidupkan ruang publik.

Abstract

Ruang terbuka publik merupakan elemen penting dalam mewujudkan kota yang inklusif dan berkelanjutan, di mana seluruh lapisan masyarakat, termasuk penyandang disabilitas, memiliki hak yang sama untuk mengakses dan memanfaatkannya. Namun demikian, pada banyak kawasan pesisir di Indonesia, penyediaan fasilitas aksesibilitas masih belum sepenuhnya memenuhi prinsip desain inklusif dan standar teknis yang berlaku. Pantai Manakarra di Mamuju sebagai salah satu ruang terbuka publik utama memiliki potensi tinggi sebagai destinasi rekreasi, namun diduga belum optimal dalam mendukung kebutuhan pengguna difabel. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kesesuaian fasilitas aksesibilitas di kawasan tersebut berdasarkan prinsip Universal Design dan Permen PUPR No. 14/PRT/M/2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan evaluatif melalui observasi lapangan, dokumentasi visual, serta analisis berbasis checklist yang membandingkan kondisi eksisting dengan standar yang ditetapkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kesesuaian fasilitas aksesibilitas di kawasan Pantai Manakarra masih tergolong rendah. Jalur pedestrian telah tersedia, namun memiliki permukaan yang tidak rata, kerusakan pada beberapa segmen, serta tidak dilengkapi dengan guiding block, sehingga belum mendukung mobilitas penyandang disabilitas netra. Akses vertikal didominasi oleh tangga tanpa ramp dengan kemiringan standar dan tanpa handrail, yang menjadi hambatan utama bagi pengguna kursi roda dan lansia. Selain itu, area parkir belum tertata dengan baik dan tidak menyediakan ruang khusus difabel, sementara keberadaan pedagang kaki lima pada jalur pedestrian mengurangi lebar efektif jalur dan menghambat sirkulasi. Jalur waterfront juga belum dilengkapi dengan elemen keselamatan dan fasilitas aksesibilitas yang memadai. Secara keseluruhan, fasilitas aksesibilitas di kawasan ini belum memenuhi prinsip Universal Design, terutama pada aspek kesetaraan penggunaan, kemudahan akses, keselamatan, dan keterbacaan informasi, serta belum sesuai dengan ketentuan Permen PUPR No. 14 Tahun 2017. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya penataan ulang kawasan berbasis desain inklusif dengan memperhatikan karakteristik tapak pesisir guna meningkatkan kualitas aksesibilitas, keselamatan, dan kenyamanan bagi seluruh pengguna, khususnya penyandang disabilitas.
