Abstract

This study explores the role of the Cia-Cia language in shaping the social dynamics of the Dusun Rahai community, particularly in fostering self-expression, collective identity, and conflict resolution. Utilizing a qualitative method through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with both younger and older generations, the research finds that Cia-Cia serves not only as a means of daily communication but also as an educational tool that imparts social values from an early age. Regular use of the language develops key social skills, including building interpersonal relationships, understanding others’ emotions and needs, resolving conflicts peacefully, and managing social emotions. Beyond its communicative function, Cia-Cia strengthens speakers’ confidence and comfort in expressing personal thoughts and feelings, reinforcing the community’s shared identity. The language also acts as an intimate and symbolic medium, often perceived as a “secret language” within social interactions. The novelty of this study lies in revealing Cia-Cia’s dual function as both a social and cultural mechanism that sustains community cohesion and manages conflicts harmoniously. This research emphasizes the critical need to preserve indigenous languages like Cia-Cia as strategic assets in advancing social and political sciences, especially in studies of language, culture, and community resilience.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of interpersonal communication between educators and students in fostering creativity through an environment-based learning approach at Green Moluccas Nature School in Maluku. The focus lies in how social relations formed through interpersonal interaction can create a collaborative, open, and supportive learning space that enhances students' creative expression. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, comprising data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students’ creativity is significantly influenced by the quality of interpersonal communication, particularly in terms of openness, empathy, equality, positive attitude, and active support from educators. Dialogic transactional communication fosters deep emotional understanding, enabling teachers to guide students contextually in environmental practices such as waste processing. The novelty of this study lies in its emphasis on integrating interpersonal communication into ecological pedagogy as a strategy to enhance creativity in island-based regions. This research contributes to the field of social sciences—especially the sociology of communication—by highlighting how interpersonal interaction functions not only as a medium of instruction but also as a transformative tool in socially and ecologically contextualized education.

Abstract

This article investigates the role of the Ambon City Government in stunting prevention through the lens of collaborative governance and strategic health communication. Drawing on a qualitative political sociology approach, the study explores how municipal authorities integrate diverse actors—including the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN), traditional villages (desa and negeri), health institutions, and non-governmental organizations—into a multi-sectoral governance network aimed at reducing stunting prevalence. The research also examines the city’s use of strategic communication tools such as public service announcements (PSAs), billboards, banners, and community outreach programs to influence public behavior and raise awareness about stunting-related health risks. Findings reveal that effective inter-institutional collaboration, reinforced by culturally resonant and consistent communication efforts, significantly contributes to policy coherence and public engagement. Moreover, the allocation of targeted budgets indicates strong political commitment, enhancing policy legitimacy and implementation outcomes. The study contributes to social science and humanities discourse by offering a context-specific analysis from Eastern Indonesia—an area underrepresented in global governance and public health literature. The integration of governance theory, political sociology, and strategic health communication presents a novel interdisciplinary framework for evaluating public health interventions. It also proposes a replicable model of urban collaborative governance applicable to similarly structured socio-political environments in the Global South.
