Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Stroke is a dangerous non-communicable disease. Stroke in older people impacts the normal quality of life. In this case, it causes the elderly to experience physical and psychological disorders that affect quality of life. This study aims to analyze and assess the effectiveness of aquatic therapy, a non-pharmacological intervention, in improving the quality of life of older adults after stroke. The research used a narrative review, drawing on relevant scientific journal articles from databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus. The analysis of five journals selected using PRISMA indicates that aquatic therapy has a positive impact on the quality of life of post-stroke older adults. The findings from the literature analysis in this study indicate that aquatic therapy has a positive effect on the quality of life of older adults after stroke. Aquatic therapy has a physical impact by improving balance, posture, flexibility, range of motion (ROM), muscle strength, and reducing pain. Regarding psychological impacts, aquatic therapy improves mood and decreases depression and anxiety in post-stroke older adults.

Abstract

(1) Background: Health problems that are not caused by infection, especially heart and blood vessel problems, remain the main reason people die and experience medical emergencies in our environment. Because people lack understanding and are not prepared to face critical situations related to the heart, this can result in first treatment being delayed.. (2) Research Objective: This activity aims to assess the effectiveness of health education in increasing knowledge of cardiac emergency preparedness in the adult community in the Suka Indah Community Health Center working area.; (3) Method: Community service activities use a pre-test and post-test design without a control group. Health education is provided through interactive lectures, discussions and video media. Evaluation was carried out using a knowledge questionnaire for 40 respondents before and after education. (4) Results: The pre-test results showed that the majority of respondents had a level of knowledge in the poor category (75%). After being given education, there was an increase in knowledge, shown by the increase in respondents in the good category to 82.5% and there were no more respondents with poor knowledge. (5) Conclusion: Health education is effective in increasing public knowledge regarding cardiac emergency preparedness and can be a promotive-preventive strategy in primary health services.

Abstract

The aging process is associated with the accumulation of oxidative stress that damages cellular function. D-galactose is used to induce aging-like conditions in animal models. Bajakah wood extract (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.), which is traditionally used, is known to contain bioactive compounds with antioxidant activity. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of ethanol extract from Bajakah wood (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.) on tyrosinase concentration and body weight in rats subjected to high-dose D-galactose induction. This laboratory experimental study used 36 male Sprague Dawley rats induced with D-galactose (500 mg/kgBW). The rats were divided into six groups: normal control, negative control, positive control (vitamin C 50 mg/kgBW), and three treatment groups that received Bajakah ethanol extract at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kgBW. Body weight was monitored weekly for 8 weeks, and tyrosinase levels were analyzed at the end of the study. The negative control group showed fluctuations in body weight and the highest tyrosinase levels. Administration of Bajakah extract, particularly at a dose of 100 mg/kgBW, significantly reduced tyrosinase concentrations (p-value < 0,05) and resulted in a more stable weight gain profile compared to the negative control group. Bajakah wood ethanol extract showed an inhibitory effect on tyrosinase and improved weight stability in the D-galactose-induced rat model. These findings support the potential of this extract as a plant-based therapeutic agent for disorders related to oxidative stress and aging.
