Abstract

Pollution caused by the discharge of waste into the waters will have an impact on water quality. Pollutants that can reduce water quality are heavy metal cadmium. Cadmium heavy metal when it enters the human body can cause toxic effects. The body needs an antidote to lower metal levels. Black onion (Allium sativum L.) contains flavonoids which are used as chelating agents. This study aims to determine the best concentration of ethanolic extract of black onion (Allium sativum L.) which can reduce cadmium levels maximally. The ethanolic extract of black onion was made in five concentration series, namely 0.2 ppm, 0.4 ppm, 0.6 ppm, 0.8 ppm, and 1 ppm. Cadmium metal (Cd) 20 ppm was treated with the addition of each concentration of black onion ethanol extract. The solution was separated with chloroform. The aqueous phase is an excess of cadmium metal which was analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) at a wavelength of 228.8 nm. The results obtained showed that the best concentration of 0.8 ppm black onion ethanol extract could reduce metal cadmium (Cd) maximally which showed a percentage of 66.3906% with a coefficient of variation of 1.5873%.

Abstract

Red spinach leaves are a plant that is rich in fiber and antioxidants which can be used to lower blood glucose levels. Some secondary metabolites that play a role include flavonoids and phenols. The aim of this research was to determine whether red spinach leaf extract (Amaranthus tricolor L) has the potential to lower glucose levels in vitro and to determine the EC50 value of red spinach leaf extract (Amaranthus tricolor L) which can reduce glucose levels. Qualitative analysis shows that red spinach leaf extract contains flavonoids and phenols. Quantitative analysis was carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 744 nm and an operating time of 25 minutes. Based on the data obtained, it shows that red spinach leaf extract has the potential to reduce glucose levels with an EC50 value of 11.0069 ppm

Abstract

Berbagai masalah kesehatan dikaitkan dengan stress oksidatif sehingga diperlukan lebih banyak antioksidan eksogen. Senyawa antioksidan yang terbukti sangat kuat menangkal radikal bebas yaitu asam askorbat. Salah satu bahan alam yang kaya asam askorbat yaitu jambu biji merah (Psidium guajava L.). Pengembangan produk bahan alam cenderung menggunakan metode ekstraksi yang sederhana, dengan pelarut yang aman dan ekonomis. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan mengetahui perbedaan kadar asam askorbat dalam ekstrak air dan ekstrak etanol jambu biji merah. Identifikasi asam askorbat dalam ekstrak dilakukan secara visual dengan pereaksi Fehling, iodium dan ammonium molibdat. Analisis kadar asam askorbat dilakukan secara spektrofotometri visibel dengan teknik kolorimetri menggunakan pereaksi ammonium molibdat 5% dan H­2SO4 5%. Pengukuran serapan dilakukan pada panjang gelombang maksimal 565 nm setelah larutan uji diinkubasi selama 20 menit. Analisis terhadap ekstrak air dan ekstrak etanol menunjukkan hasil positif mengandung asam askobat dengan kadar sebesar 316,67 ± 5,77 mg/ 100 g ekstrak air dan 273,33 ± 5,77 mg/ 100 g ekstrak etanol. Analisis statistik dengan uji Mann Whitney menunjukkan nilai signifikasi 0,043 (p<0,05), sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kadar asam askorbat dalam ekstrak air dan ekstrak etanol.
