Abstract

Waste management is one approach to achieving a greener future. It is also related to SDGs 11 and 12 regarding sustainable cities and communities, as well as responsible consumption and production. Tonjong village is one of the villages in Tajur Halang District, Bogor, which faces significant challenges in managing the large volume of household waste, much of which remains unprocessed. To address this issue, the Business Administration Program, Faculty of Law, Social and Political Sciences (FHISIP), Universitas Terbuka, launched a community service program aimed at improving household waste management through socialization of waste management and composting training in Tonjong village. There are fifteen participants in the community service, including residents of Tonjong village, four neighborhood units, one representative from the neighborhood association, farmers' members, and administrators from Bank Sampah. The outcome of this program is increased ecological literacy and increased awareness among participants in managing waste and processing organic waste into compost. This initiative not only supports better environmental practices but also creates opportunities for the community to generate income by selling compost, with proceeds used to fund future community activities.

Abstract

MTNR in Pangalengan, West Java, is a conservation area with high biodiversity that is increasingly pressured by tourism and agricultural activities, which may affect air quality. This study aimed to examine the relationship between air quality and lichen diversity as bioindicators of air pollution. A descriptive exploratory method was applied at four site types representing different levels of human activity: forest, roadside, plantation, and tourist areas. The results showed that microclimatic conditions and air quality at all sites were classified as good according to Government Regulation No. 22/2021. However, lichen diversity and thallus composition varied among sites in response to environmental conditions. Crustose lichens dominated roadside and plantation areas with higher environmental stress, while foliose and fruticose lichens were more abundant in forest areas characterized by lower temperatures, higher humidity, and minimal pollution. The presence of sensitive species such as Usnea sp. and Ramalina sp. indicated superior air quality in forest sites. In conclusion, lichen distribution reflects an air quality gradient across the study area, confirming the effectiveness of lichens as reliable bioindicators for ecological monitoring in conservation areas.

Abstract

Bawang merah (Allium ascalonicum L.) merupakan komoditas hortikultura bernilai ekonomi tinggi yang permintaannya terus meningkat di Indonesia. Dua permasalahan utama yang dihadapi masyarakat Kelurahan Pondok Cabe, Pamulang, adalah keterbatasan lahan pekarangan dan rendahnya pengetahuan tentang pertanian organik. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat mandiri ini bertujuan memberikan pelatihan pembuatan pupuk kompos dari sampah daun kering serta teknik budidaya bawang merah dalam polibag. Metode pelaksanaan mencakup tiga tahap: penyuluhan pertanian berkelanjutan, pelatihan praktik komposting, dan pelatihan budidaya polibag, dengan evaluasi melalui pengamatan langsung, diskusi pasca-kegiatan, dan pemantauan tanaman. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan: (1) peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang manfaat pupuk organik dan dampak negatif pupuk kimia; (2) kemampuan peserta membuat kompos secara mandiri dari limbah daun kering; (3) keberhasilan budidaya bawang merah dalam polibag dengan perkecambahan 5-7 hari dan pertumbuhan vegetatif yang baik; serta (4) komitmen tinggi peserta mengembangkan pertanian organik sebagai usaha rumah tangga. Program ini berkontribusi pada peningkatan ketahanan pangan keluarga, pengurangan sampah organik, dan penguatan kesadaran ekologis masyarakat perkotaan.

Abstract

Phallus indusiatus is a macrofungus that has attracted attention because of its nutritional value and reported biological activities, including antimicrobial properties. This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of wild and cultivated P. indusiatus against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans using the disc diffusion method. Wild samples were collected from Central Java, Indonesia, whereas cultivated samples were obtained from Hong Kong. Simplicia suspensions were prepared in sterile distilled water at a concentration of 100 mg/mL and tested against the selected microorganisms. No inhibition zones were observed in any treatment, indicating that the tested samples did not exhibit detectable antimicrobial activity under the conditions applied in this study. The positive control produced a mean inhibition zone of 32 mm, while no inhibition was observed in the negative control. Gene annotation data from previously generated whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of the wild sample were also reviewed to support the interpretation of the results. The selected annotated genes were mainly associated with cellular metabolism, transcriptional regulation, respiration, and metabolite transport. However, the genomic analysis was limited to a small number of annotated genes and was used only as supporting information. Overall, the findings suggest that aqueous suspensions of P. indusiatus simplicia did not show detectable antimicrobial activity against the tested microorganisms under the experimental conditions employed.
