Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to standardize science process skills (SPS) instruments in microbiology labs. This Type research is quantitative descriptive, which focuses on standardizing instruments. The research subjects were students of the Biology Education Department of FMIPA Universitas Negeri Gorontalo who programed microbiology courses. Validation was carried out by three experts. The results showed that the value of validity was 4.95 in aspects of the assessment of items on SPS and 4.85 in aspects of language ass essment. The results of measurements on science process skills of students have obtained an average of 3.00 in trials I and 3.37 in trial II. The reliability of the instrument in the first trial was 0.81 and in the second trial was 0.82. The results of the research obtained indicate that KPS skill instruments are valid and reliable. The instrument can be used to measure student science process skills, especially in microbiology courses. Future research can compile PPP instruments in other subjects.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to improve the science process skills of students by using an inquiry learning model on the material of growth and development in plants. This type of research uses quasi experimental in the form of Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were all XII IPA classes. The samples were class XII IPA 1 and class XII IPA 2 with a total of 28 students. The sampling technique used in this study was Purposive Sampling. The data collection technique used is in the form of a test of students' science process skills. The results of the t test analysis research can be obtained sig value. (2-tailed) of 0.033 <0.05, then according to the basis for decision making in the independent sample t-test, it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that the application of the inquiry learning model on the material of growth and development in plants can improve the science process skills of students at SMA Negeri 1 Tapa. Suggestions from researchers require further research on the application of inquiry learning models on other subjects, so that it can be seen the consistency of the effect of applying these learning models on improving science process skills.

Abstract

This study aims to produce natural vinegar from corn extract (Zea mays L.) through a two-stage fermentation process: alcoholic fermentation using Saccharomyces cerevisiae followed by acetic acid fermentation using Acetobacter aceti. The evaluation included physical observation, pH measurement, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) testing, organoleptic assessment, and determination of acetic acid concentration through titration. The results indicated notable physical changes during fermentation, with pH decreasing from approximately 7 to 6 over 7–14 days, accompanied by the emergence of a distinctive vinegar aroma that signified acetic acid formation. LAB activity was confirmed by colony growth on Nutrient Agar (NA) media, demonstrating their role in establishing an acidic environment favorable for the second fermentation stage. Overall, the findings show that corn extract has strong potential as a fermentation substrate for natural vinegar production using a biological process.
