Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential of the dried fish business to enhance the economic welfare of the Kuantan Tenang Village community and to review its business practices from an Islamic perspective. The dried fish enterprise is among the emerging economic sectors within this village, owing to the plentiful freshwater fish resources. Employing a descriptive qualitative methodology, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation from business stakeholders and community leaders. The findings indicate that the dried fish industry in Kuantan Tenang Village possesses considerable potential to bolster the community's economy, supported by the availability of raw materials, local labor, and established processing traditions. Although primarily traditional, this enterprise can serve as a source of income and employment. From an Islamic business standpoint, its practices adhere to the principles of halal, justice (al-'adl), trustworthiness (amanah), and provide maslahah (benefit). Consequently, in addition to economic benefits, this enterprise also holds spiritual significance and the capacity to confer blessings upon its practitioners.

Abstract

The article examines conflict resolution through the integration of customary and Islamic law in Langkahan marriages in Southeast Padangsidimpuan District, Indonesia. Langkahan is a customary practice in which a younger sibling marries before an older unmarried sibling, often generating family tensions and social conflict. This study employed a qualitative field research approach. Primary data were obtained through interviews with traditional leaders, religious leaders, and individuals involved in Langkahan marriages, while secondary data were drawn from books, journal articles, and relevant legal documents. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed thematically, with triangulation used to enhance the credibility of the findings. The findings show that conflicts arising from Langkahan are primarily resolved through customary mediation led by traditional leaders, while Islamic law provides an ethical and legal framework for ensuring fair outcomes. Although customary sanctions, including compensation obligations, remain applicable, their implementation is often adjusted to the economic capacity of the parties involved. This reflects the complementary relationship between customary norms and Islamic legal principles in promoting justice, social harmony, and family cohesion. This study advances legal pluralism by showing how customary and Islamic law jointly resolve marital conflicts, while emphasizing collaboration between customary and religious authorities to ensure fair, context-sensitive dispute resolution.   Keywords: Conflict Resolution; Islamic Law; Langkahan Marriage.
