Abstract

Special Needs Children (ABK) is one of the vulnerable groups in times of disaster. Some of them have mobility hindrance even to perform a defence and personal escape independently, therefore, information is needed on what procedures or plans to take to rescue ABKs who need help from people around them (e.g. teachers, classmates, school staffs). Objectives: To determine the preparedness of children with special needs in dealing with earthquake disasters in Yogyakarta. This research uses a observational descriptive design. The samples are selected using a purposive sampling technique, while the data are collected by means of observation sheets. The respondents for this research are special needs children with autism at ‘SLB N Pembina’, Yogyakarta. Data analysis is performed using a descriptive qualitative analysis. Disaster awareness trainings give a positive influence in reducing disaster risks and in increasing the disaster preparedness of special needs children with autism. Special needs children with autism show ability and participation after performing 5 times simulation. The preparedness increase of special needs children after training is 39%.

Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a major public health problem affecting thousands of individuals each year in both out-of-hospital and in-hospital setting. High quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provide return of spontaneous after cardiac arrest, but majority of nursing students feel unconfident to practice CPR. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of CPR training program on knowledge and practices of nursing students in Yogyakarta. The study design was quasi-experimental and one group pretest – posttest design. A questionnaire was applied to the students before CPR training, then the student were informed about adult CPR by the researchers and all of the students practice CPR on a Resusci-Anne manikin. One months after this training the same questionnaire and skills checklist of CPR were applied. Sixty five students of nursing participated in this study. This study show CPR training significantly positive impact cognitive and skills performance in nursing students. While the average CPR knowledge score of these students was 44,43%, before CPR training, this average increased to 89,64% after CPR training and decreased to 77,54% after one month CPR training. Skill score of the students one month after the CPR skill training was 70,61%. Nursing students tend to forget theoretical and applied CPR training after one month. Hence there is a need for continuous CPR training and education and repeating the skills at regular intervals ever after they have graduated to ensure sustainability in the CPR skills.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIndonesia lies on the ring of fire and this includes Yogyakarta province which had experienced some earthquakes. The earthquake that occurred in 2006 caused thousands of people died. Most of the survivors were elderly people and children. Children are a vulnerable group, especially those with special needs. School is the first reference to teach earthquake disaster preparedness to children. This research used observational descriptive design. Purposive sampling technique was used, and data was collected through observation sheet. Respondents were with autism in Special School of Negeri Pembina Yogyakarta (n=23). Storytelling and Simulation on Earthquake Disaster Preparedness gave positive influence towards the mitigation ability by children with special needs, especially those with autism. There were nine children with autism in the category of low IQ, six in the category of average IQ and eight children in the category of superior IQ. Before the storytelling was conducted, children’s ability and involvement in the simulation was 35% (8 children). Conversely, the children’s ability and involvement raised to 78% (18 children) after being given five times (5x) simulation and storytelling. Storytelling and simulation method were effective as training methods in earthquake disaster mitigation on children with autism. There was 43% increase of mitigation level before and after intervention.ABSTRAKDaerah di Indonesia merupakan ring of fire dan Yogyakarta merupakan salah satu daerah yang mengalami gempa bumi. Abstract

Public health centres (Puskesmas) are one of the most important health service facilities for people in Indonesia, therefore it is important to improve the access of communities towards good quality health services, including access to basic health services. The service quality of Public health centres must stem from the needs and expectations of the general public. Parasuraman et al identified 5 components in service quality, namely: Tangiblity, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance and Emphaty. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the perception of outpatients towards the service quality at Cilegon. The sample for this study were patients who underwent treatment in the Public Health Centers, aged ≥ 17 years, and as many as 258 respondents. The results of the study showed a proportion of 46.1% who had a good perception towards the quality of outpatient services at the Cilegon Community Health Center. Univariate analysis showed a proportion of 44.2% who had a good perception in the physical evidence component, a proportion of 74% who had a good perception in the reliability component, a proportion of 76.7% who had a good perception in the responsiveness component, a proportion of 78.7% who had a good perception in the assurance component and a proportion of 81.8% who had a good perception in the empathy component. Bivariate analysis found a relationship between internal factors and the perception of the health service quality, namely interest (p = 0.005, PR = 4.138), expectation (p = 0.005, PR = 9.301), and knowledge (p = 0.005, PR = 6.89). The most dominant factor related to perception is expectation.
