Abstract

Islamic Banking has an important role in supporting economic growth and financial stability. The positive development of Islamic Banking in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is a strategic concern, considering that studies at the provincial level are still limited, especially regarding the influence of internal and external factors. This study analyzes the performance of Islamic Banking in NTB during 2010-2023 using Return on Assets (ROA) as an indicator of profitability, with the Error Correction Model (ECM) method to measure short-term and long-term relationships. Internal factors include Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Non-Performing Financing (NPF), Bank Size (BS), and Third Party Funds (TPF). External factors include Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDRP), inflation (INF), exchange rate (ER), and Islamic Stock Index (ISS). The study results show that internally, FDR has a significant negative effect in the long term, reflecting liquidity risk. NPF has a negative impact in the short term but a positive impact in the long term, indicating optimal risk management. BS shows operational inefficiency, while DPK has a significant positive effect in the short term but a negative effect in the long term. Externally, GRDP supports profitability in the short and long term. Inflation has a significant negative impact, the exchange rate has a significant positive impact in the long term, and ISS has a significant positive impact in the long term. This study emphasizes the importance of increasing liquidity efficiency and financing risk management by Islamic banking. The government and regulators also need to maintain economic stability through controlling inflation and the exchange rate to support the performance of this sector.

Abstract

Poverty in developing nations, including Indonesia, is a complex issue stemming from inequalities in access to education, healthcare, and economic resources. This study examines the connections between economic growth, the Human Development Index (HDI), and poverty, with unemployment serving as a moderating factor in South Sulawesi from 2019 to 2023, employing panel data and the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The findings indicate that the HDI significantly reduces poverty, underscoring the importance of enhancing education, healthcare, and income for poverty alleviation. Conversely, unemployment significantly worsens poverty, yet it does not influence the relationship between economic growth and HDI in relation to poverty. Economic growth itself also does not have a direct impact, suggesting the necessity for inclusive growth policies. The study highlights the critical role of HDI and unemployment reduction in addressing poverty, offering policy recommendations focused on enhancing HDI, generating employment, and ensuring a fairer distribution of the benefits of growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the impact of economic growth, inflation, exchange rates, industrial added value, and investment on Indonesia's trade value in the period 1989-2022. The data used were sourced from the World Development Indicators and analysed using the Error Correction Model (ECM) approach. The results of the study show that economic growth has a negative influence on the value of trade, both in the short and long term. On the other hand, inflation, the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar, industrial value-added, and investment have a positive influence on trade value, both in the short and long term. Based on these findings, policies that can be taken to increase Indonesia's trade value include: first, more stable economic policies to reduce the negative impact of economic growth on trade; second, monetary policy that can control inflation and maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate against the dollar; third, strengthening the industrial sector by encouraging investment and increasing industrial added value to increase export competitiveness; and fourth, policies that support a better investment climate to attract sustainable domestic and foreign investment. This research provides important insights for policymakers in formulating economic strategies that can support the increase in the value of Indonesia's trade in the global market.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect economic growth in ASEAN countries, namely Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, during the period 1986-2022 using data from the World Development Indicators (WDI). The regression method is used to identify the impact of variables such as inflation, exchange rate, industrial value added (IVA), labor, interest rates, tax revenues, trade value, population, and investment on economic growth. The results of the study show that industrial value added (IVA), tax revenue (Tax_rev), and trade value (TRADE) have a significant influence on the economic growth of ASEAN countries. On the other hand, inflation has a negative effect on economic growth in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. In addition, the workforce has a positive influence on economic growth in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. These findings provide important insights for policymakers in ASEAN to pay attention to structural factors such as industrial policies, taxation, and trade in supporting sustainable economic growth. The main contribution of this study is to provide an in-depth empirical analysis of the factors influencing the economic growth of ASEAN countries, as well as their implications for economic policies in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of gross domestic product (GDP), imports, population size, exchange rate, and manufacturing added value on household consumption in Indonesia. The data used covers the period 1980 to 2023, with macroeconomic variables obtained from the World Development Indicators. The analysis model applied is the dynamic Error Correction Model (ECM). The results show that both in the long and short term, GDP, imports, exchange rates, and manufacturing value added significantly affect household consumption in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the size of the population does not have a significant influence on household consumption in the short term. Based on these findings, it is recommended to policymakers to strengthen the manufacturing sector and manage exchange rate policies to make them more stable, to encourage sustainable household consumption. In addition, increasing trade policies that support exports and imports can help increase people's purchasing power. Increased investment in the manufacturing sector is also expected to result in more inclusive economic growth and increase household consumption. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the dynamics of macroeconomic factors that affect household consumption in developing countries such as Indonesia. These findings can serve as a reference for further research into the influence of economic sectors on social welfare. In addition, the results of this study provide valuable insights for policymakers in formulating more holistic and sustainable economic development strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of GDP per capita, labor force participation (LABOR), and manufacturing value added (MVA) on unemployment (UE) in Indonesia using annual data from the World Development Indicators (WDI) for the period 1990–2023. Employing an Error Correction Model (ECM), the analysis distinguishes between short-term dynamics and long-term relationships among the variables. The findings reveal that, in the long run, GDP per capita, LABOR, and MVA significantly influence unemployment. In the short run, however, only GDP per capita and MVA are found to have a statistically significant effect. The estimated Error Correction Term (ECT) of -0.505068 indicates a moderate speed of adjustment towards long-term equilibrium following short-term shocks.Policy Implications: The results suggest that promoting inclusive economic growth and enhancing the industrial sector's contribution to GDP can play a crucial role in reducing unemployment in Indonesia. Moreover, optimizing labor force participation through targeted employment and education policies could strengthen the long-term resilience of the labor market.Research Contribution: This study contributes to the existing body of literature by offering a comprehensive long-term and short-term perspective on the macroeconomic determinants of unemployment in a major emerging economy. By using up-to-date data and applying the ECM framework, the research provides valuable insights for policymakers seeking evidence-based strategies to address labor market challenges in developing countries.

Abstract

Investment has an important role in the economic development of a country through a funding vacuum, with investment inequality between regions can be overcome. This study aims to analyze the effect of exchange rates, inflation, interest rates and exports on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) using the VECM approach. VECM is used in this analysis because it can be used to estimate short-term effects between variables and long-term effects from time series data. This model was chosen because the influence of exchange rates, inflation, interest rates and exports cannot occur directly, but takes time to affect changes in foreign investment in Indonesia. This study used data from 1992-2022 taken from the Central Statistics Agency report. The results show that exchange rates and exports in the short and long term have a significant influence on Foreign Investment in Indonesia. While inflation and interest rates in the short term do not show a significant influence on Foreign Investment in Indonesia, while inflation and interest rate variables in the long term show a positive and significant influence on Foreign Investment in Indonesia. To increase foreign investment in Indonesia, the central government together with local governments should strive for ease of business licensing and the provision of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to investors who invest in priority sectors in encouraging increased employment.
