Abstract

Underutilization of health care for the poor is one critical problem in Indonesia. Out of pocket share is dominant on overall health financing. Therefore, it is plausible that low demand of modern healthcare services mainly relates to financial aspect. In 2008, the government of Indonesia has introduced health insurance schemes for the poor to help them overcome the problem of medical costs barrier called Jamkesmas (Social Health Insurance). This paper examines the impact evaluation of Jamkesmas to health care utilization in Eastern Indonesia. Data are drawn from Indonesia Family Life Survey East (IFLS-East) that held in 2012. This data only covers the eastern regions of Indonesia that widely known has relatively lower performance in development and infrastructure. Moreover, this study employs Propensity Score Matching (PSM) approach to analyse the data. The results show that average treatment effect for treated group are positive for outpatient utilization. In addition, availability of the healthcare facility variables, travelling time and distance to district capital are factors that determine Jamkemas coverage in Eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose – This paper examines how effective governance influences Islamic social finance management, using mosques in Yogyakarta as a case study during and after the Covid-19 crisis. Methodology – This study employs a survey with a sample of 360 mosques in Yogyakarta using a quantitative approach with ordinary least squares (OLS) and logit regression models. Findings – The findings indicate that an increase in the effective governance index score has a positive and significant effect on the fundraising index and zakat distribution, resulting in increases of 0.14 standard deviations and 6.5 percent, respectively. Furthermore, effective governance had a positive and significant effect on the probability of mosques having a financial management system, with a marginal effect of 7.3 poin percentage.Implication – The government should offer financial management training and support the digitalization of reporting systems as a means of strengthening mosque governance.Limitations – First, the data used were cross-sectional, which may restrict researchers' ability to identify long-term causal relationships. Second, despite efforts to address endogeneity using several variables, the instruments are theoretically valid but statistically insignificant. Original – This study is the first to present micro-level empirical evidence from mosques in Yogyakarta, an area that has rarely been explored in Islamic financial governance literature. Furthermore, we used a multidimensional effective governance index that ranges from 0 to 1. The index was then standardized using a z-score to ensure comparability and balance across mosques.

Abstract

Gunungkidul Regency is a karst region that is vulnerable to drought due to the low ability of the soil to retain water. This has a significant impact on the provision of forage for the livestock sector. This community service aims to improve animal feed independence through the application of irrigation technology and legume plant integrity in marginal land in Duwet Village, using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach method which is divided into 4 (four) stages: Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling (POAC). This activity includes field surveys, socialization, initial assessment, participatory installation, as well as technical assistance and ongoing monitoring. After 8 (eight) harvests, the application of sprinkler irrigation was able to increase and stabilize forage productivity in the range of 16-17 kg/m2. The integration of legume plants contributes to improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, this is what supports the sustainable growth of forage crops. Total forage production varied between locations, ranging from 0.40 to 1.57 tonnes, indicating the influence of specific factors such as soil conditions, water availability, and farming management. The program also demonstrated success in increasing the capacity and participation of livestock groups, as evidenced by the high level of involvement in system installation and management. Operational costs, technology maintenance, and the need for a more adaptive approach to local conditions are challenges faced in this activity. However, overall, the program is quite effective in supporting livestock feed security and reducing dependence on traditional patterns, and has the potential to be replicated with adjustments based on regional characteristics.
