Abstract

Civic Education (PKn) plays a strategic role in shaping the character of the nation’s young generation to become faithful, virtuous, democratic individuals who are able to live harmoniously amidst diversity. In the era of globalization and rapid digital technology development, Civic Education not only teaches citizens’ rights and responsibilities but also instills moral values, ethics, and critical thinking skills. Through active learning approaches such as discussions, simulations, case studies, and social projects, Civic Education can enhance students’ national awareness, social ethics, and leadership skills. The challenges faced in implementing Civic Education in the digital era include infrastructure gaps, low levels of technological literacy among teachers and students, and the lack of quality digital resources. This literature study emphasizes the importance of strengthening social ethics, Pancasila values, and 21st-century skills in Civic Education so that the young generation is prepared to become responsible, tolerant, and globally minded citizens.

Abstract

The lack of teachers' social competence has a negative impact on the decline of the image of a pleasant school environment. The purpose of this research is to find and analyze the implementation of collaborative learning that can improve the social competence of teachers of SMP Negeri 2 Darangdan Purwakarta. This research uses a case study approach. The data collection method used participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies on learning community activities. The results of the study show that (1) Collaborative learning that is institutionalized through the forum of Learning Communities (Kombel) and Lesson Study can change the work pattern of teachers that were originally individualistic to more collective; (2) The interaction process in planning and evaluating joint learning significantly hones communication skills, cooperation, and empathy between peers; (3) The main obstacles found were time constraints and schedule adjustments, but the managerial support of the principal was the key to the success of the program. The conclusion of this study is that effective collaborative learning functions as a social laboratory that matures teachers' professional attitudes.

Abstract

Progressivism is an educational philosophy that emphasizes education being centered on students’ experiences in order to produce pragmatic and skilled graduates, rather than focusing on theoretical facts. This descriptive qualitative study aims to measure the relevance of learning at SMPN 3 Darangdan based on this framework. In conclusion, the school seeks to implement Progressivism by having teachers relate subject matter to local contexts and employ student-centered methods such as Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to provide authentic learning experiences. Students perceive learning materials as relevant when they can be applied directly (such as in Crafts and practical Mathematics). However, implementation is constrained by structural factors (a dense curriculum and a culture focused on exam scores) and technical factors (limited teacher competence in designing authentic projects and inadequate facilities). For sustainability, strong structural support, enhancement of teacher competencies, and innovative leadership are required. This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method, aiming to observe, analyze, and obtain a comprehensive overview of the relevance of learning at SMPN 3 Darangdan, Purwakarta Regency. SMPN 3 Darangdan has demonstrated a clear commitment to implementing relevant and experience-oriented learning in accordance with the principles of Progressivism. Teachers possess a solid philosophical understanding of curriculum relevance and strive to connect learning materials with students’ real-life contexts. Experience-centered learning, through methods such as Project-Based Learning and Problem-Based Learning, provides benefits for the development of academic competencies, social skills, and life skills. Nevertheless, implementation has not yet been fully stable due to structural barriers, limited facilities, and an educational culture that prioritizes exam scores. Continuous support from the school, improved teacher competence, and adequate facilities are needed so that progressive learning can be implemented more deeply and consistently.
