Abstract

Low self-discipline among junior high school students remains a significant challenge that affects the quality of learning. This study aims to identify the factors contributing to the low level of self-discipline among seventh-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 11 Kota Kupang by examining daily habits, family supervision, peer influence, school regulations, and technology use. This descriptive qualitative research employed semi-structured interviews with five purposively selected students considered representative of low-discipline cases. The results reveal that irregular study habits, limited parental supervision, peer dynamics, inconsistent enforcement of school rules, and excessive use of digital devices interact and collectively reduce students’ self-discipline. The study offers new insights within the Kupang context by highlighting how the combination of weak external control and high exposure to digital technology intensifies students’ disciplinary issues.ABSTRAKTingkat disiplin diri siswa yang masih rendah menjadi persoalan yang berdampak pada efektivitas proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi rendahnya disiplin diri siswa kelas VII K di UPTD SMP Negeri 11 Kota Kupang, dengan memberi perhatian khusus pada aspek kebiasaan harian, peran keluarga, pengaruh teman sebaya, penerapan aturan sekolah, serta pemanfaatan teknologi. Pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif digunakan melalui wawancara terhadap lima siswa yang dipilih secara purposive sebagai contoh kasus khas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketidakteraturan kebiasaan belajar, lemahnya pengawasan keluarga, pengaruh kelompok teman, penerapan tata tertib yang belum optimal di sekolah, serta penggunaan gawai yang berlebihan saling berkaitan dan memperkuat perilaku tidak disiplin. Temuan ini memberikan kontribusi baru dalam konteks Kota Kupang dengan menegaskan bahwa perpaduan antara teknologi dan lemahnya pengawasan lingkungan turut memperbesar tantangan kedisiplinan siswa.

Abstract

Character-strengthening socialization is an important effort to develop students with strong moral values and a Pancasila-oriented mindset in line with the Merdeka Curriculum. This Community Service Program (PKM) was conducted at UPTD SMP Negeri 11 Kupang City and aimed to improve students’ understanding and practice of character values through the eight dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. The implementation method involved character socialization activities, including material presentations, interactive discussions, and student reflection sessions. To measure the impact of the program, students’ character understanding was assessed before and after the socialization activities. The results showed an increase in the average score from 68.13 to 85.49, with an N-Gain of 57.61%, categorized as moderate. The most notable improvements were observed in responsibility, cooperation, independence, and critical thinking skills.
