Abstract

This community service program aims to describe the implementation and impact of “Persekutuan Hamba Tuhan,” a diaconal initiative conducted by GBI Jemaat Kasih Surabaya to support 80 pastors serving in small congregations around the M3 area of Surabaya. The background of the program stems from ongoing socioeconomic challenges affecting church ministers in the post-pandemic period, particularly those serving in churches with limited resources and unstable financial support. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation of the program activities, documentation of the distribution process, and testimonies from both recipients and church members. The results show three major outcomes. First, the distribution of food packages and basic daily necessities significantly reduced the economic burden of the participating pastors, providing a sense of relief and stability for their households. Second, the program strengthened congregational solidarity, as more than fifty church members actively engaged in fundraising, packaging, and direct service, building a stronger culture of compassion and shared responsibility. Third, the fellowship activities—consisting of worship, preaching, prayer, and personal encouragement—provided emotional and spiritual strengthening that renewed the pastors’ motivation and confidence in their ministry. Overall, this program demonstrates that integrated diaconal service combining material aid, spiritual encouragement, and relational support can offer meaningful impact for vulnerable church ministers. The findings also highlight the potential of this model to be replicated in other church settings as a holistic, community-based ministry approach. It is recommended that future programs expand coverage, incorporate long-term follow-up, and explore empowerment components to enhance sustainable impact.

Abstract

Online game addiction has become a significant developmental challenge for adolescents, particularly in Indonesia with its rapidly growing population of digital game users. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of online game addiction among adolescents by integrating recent empirical findings with a Christian pastoral-theological perspective. Using a literature review approach, this research examines the causes, symptoms, and psychosocial effects of gaming addiction and interprets their implications for character formation and spiritual maturity. Empirical studies indicate that addiction arises from a combination of internal factors—including the need for recognition, emotional escape, and low self-control—and external factors such as ineffective parenting, peer pressure, and reward-based game design. Its impact extends beyond emotional, social, and academic impairment, affecting adolescents’ spirituality through diminished spiritual disciplines and weakened identity formation. Theologically, addiction is understood as a distortion of freedom and relational wholeness, hindering the adolescent’s growth toward maturity in Christ. This study emphasizes the necessity of a holistic pastoral response through relational guidance, family involvement, and the cultivation of spiritual disciplines as essential strategies for recovery and the strengthening of adolescents’ spiritual identity in the digital age.

Abstract

The phenomenon of job-hugging has emerged increasingly in the modern workplace as a response to post-pandemic economic uncertainty. To date, however, it has predominantly been examined through economic and psychological frameworks. This study explores job hugging from a theological perspective by analyzing the relationship between faith and anxiety in the context of contemporary working life in Indonesia. This research employs a contextual, systematic, theological approach using a qualitative, reflective method grounded in a review of theological literature, the theology of work, and contemporary pastoral theology. The findings indicate that job-hugging does not merely reflect a survival strategy but also reveals a crisis of modern faith, namely, the displacement of ultimate security from divine providence to employment and worldly stability. Anxiety is understood both as a spiritual symptom of weakened faith and as a reflective space that may lead to a deepening of existential faith. The novelty of this study lies in its interpretation of job hugging as a theological phenomenon that manifests the dialectical dynamic between faith and anxiety, as well as in its formulation of pastoral implications that situate work as vocation within the framework of providentia Dei. This study affirms the contribution of systematic theology in enriching contemporary discourse on the modern world of work and in strengthening the pastoral accompaniment of believers.
