Abstract

This study discusses the development of Islam in Southeast Asia, which has undergone significant dynamics since the 13th century through trade routes, proselytizing, and political power. The main issue in this study is how the process of Islamization took place in various regions such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as well as the factors that influenced the acceptance of Islam amid local cultural diversity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the patterns of dissemination, the roles of scholars and traders, and the socio-political impact of the development of Islam on Southeast Asian societies. The method used is a literature study with a historical-comparative approach, utilizing primary and secondary sources in the form of classical manuscripts, travelogues, and modern academic research. The results of the study show that the development of Islam in this region is not uniform, but is influenced by different local contexts, resulting in a moderate form of Islam that is adaptive to local cultures and plays a major role in the formation of social and political identities in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of Islam during the Umayyad Dynasty as one of the important periods in the history of Islamic civilization. The main focus of the discussion is directed at the process of the emergence of Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan as the first caliph of the Umayyad Dynasty and his efforts to establish dynastic power after the Islamic Civil War (Fitnah Kubra). The Umayyad Dynasty played a strategic role in the transformation of the Islamic government system from an elective caliphate to a hereditary monarchy, while simultaneously expanding the territory of Islam to various regions. This study uses a literature review method with a historiographic approach, namely examining and analyzing relevant classical and modern historical sources. The results show that during the Umayyad Dynasty, Islam experienced significant developments in the aspects of politics, government administration, military, and culture. However, internal political dynamics, conflicts over the legitimacy of power, and dissatisfaction of certain groups also contributed to weakening the stability of the dynasty. This study also describes the process of decline of the Umayyad Dynasty until its eventual collapse and replacement by the Abbasid Dynasty.

Abstract

This study discusses the progress of science in Andalusia during the rule of the Umayyad Daulah II, which served as an essential bridge between the Islamic world and the West. The purpose of this research is to examine the factors that stimulated scientific advancement, the fields of knowledge that developed, and the intellectual values inherited for modern life. This study employs a qualitative approach with a library research method by analyzing various historical sources, academic journals, and scholarly works related to Islamic civilization in Andalusia. The results show that scientific progress in Andalusia under the Umayyad Daulah II emerged from political stability, social tolerance, religious enthusiasm, and government support for education and research. Knowledge flourished in diverse disciplines such as medicine, astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, art, and architecture. Andalusia became a leading center for education and translation, transmitting Islamic knowledge to Europe and contributing greatly to the rise of the Renaissance. In conclusion, the intellectual achievements of Andalusia demonstrate that the harmony between faith, justice, and openness produces a just and progressive civilization. These scientific and moral values remain relevant for guiding the development of a modern civilization grounded in ethics and humanity.

Abstract

The tomb of Ario Damar in Palembang City represents one of the important historical sites for understanding the political, social, and religious dynamics during the transitional period from the influence of the Majapahit Kingdom to the development of Islam in the South Sumatra region. The study of this site employs the historical method through the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation of the Ario Damar tomb complex and literature studies derived from scientific journals, academic articles, and relevant historiographical works. The analysis indicates that the existence of the Ario Damar tomb not only represents a physical relic of a prominent figure within the governmental structure of Palembang in the fifteenth century but also serves as material evidence reflecting the process of cultural and religious transformation in the region. The tomb site demonstrates historical connections between the political authority of Majapahit, the early development of Islam in Palembang, and the political and cultural relations between Java and Sumatra. In addition to its historical significance, the Ario Damar tomb also holds social and cultural functions as a space of collective memory for the community, which continues to be used as a site of pilgrimage and historical reflection. Therefore, the preservation of the Ario Damar tomb site is essential to maintain cultural heritage while strengthening its role as a source of local historical learning and the development of sustainable historical tourism.
