Abstract

Abstract

The concept of tajalliyat is often derived from non-Nusantara Sufi scholars and referenced in non-tafsir works such as Ibn al-Arabi’s Futuhat al-Makkiyyah. However, the Javanese tafsir Fayd al-Rahman explicitly presents tajalliyat in the story of Adam’s creation. In Sufi tradition, tajalliyat is closely related to the concept of insan kamil (the Perfect Human). This study explores both concepts and their interrelation in Fayd al-Rahman using a thematic approach and content analysis. The findings reveal that tajalliyat in Adam’s creation refers to the manifestation of God’s Names and Attributes within Adam’s essence, reflecting the Divine through the expression ana huwa la huwa (“He is, yet not He”). Meanwhile, insan kamil is symbolized through Adam’s honor as khalifah, adorned with the taj al-karamah, libas al-sa‘adah, and nitaq al-qurbah. Their connection is interpreted through epistemological, ontological, and cosmic reasoning, showing tajalliyat as the path and insan kamil as its peak. Thus, Adam is portrayed as the embodiment of insan kamil manifested through divine tajalliyat.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically map and synthesize the research landscape on eco-theology within the framework of Islamic education in Indonesia. This study addresses this gap by identifying research trends, thematic patterns, and key findings, while highlighting the role of Islamic education in responding to contemporary ecological challenges aligned with sustainable development principles. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Data were collected from the Scopus database, covering journal articles and conference papers published between 2020 and 2025 by Indonesian-affiliated authors. Quantitative mapping was supported using Bibliometrix (R package), while qualitative data were analyzed through reflexive thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke’s six-phase framework. The results reveal a growing research trend, with a notable surge in publications in 2025 and an annual growth rate of 24.57%. Four dominant themes emerged: (1) integration of Islamic teachings in environmental conservation, (2) the role of religious institutions and communities, (3) internalization of eco-values through education, and (4) practical conservation efforts and outcomes. Empirical findings demonstrate that pesantren and major Muslim organizations function as key agents in translating eco-theological principles into concrete environmental actions. The review is limited to Scopus-indexed publications and Indonesian-affiliated authors, which may constrain broader generalization and international comparison. This study offers the first systematic thematic synthesis of eco-theology research in Indonesian Islamic education, providing a conceptual foundation for future comparative, policy-oriented, and sustainability-focused studies.

Abstract

Debates on Islamic tolerance continue to turn on the relation between doctrinal conviction, freedom of conscience, and public coexistence in plural societies. This article examines how Muḥammad ʿImārah’s Al-Samāḥah al-Islāmiyyah constructs Islamic tolerance as coexistence ethics. Using directed qualitative content analysis, the study analyzes textual units concerning Qur'anic non-coercion, the Medina Charter, the Najran Covenant, historical coexistence, and critiques of coercive exclusivism. The analysis shows that ʿImārah organizes tolerance through four interrelated categories: theological non-coercion, constitutional pluralism, active protection of religious communities, and historical participation in Islamic civilization. Its contribution lies in reading Al-Samāḥah al-Islāmiyyah as a unified textual construction that links faith, law, citizenship, protection, and participation. Indonesia is used only as a theoretical context for discussing the relevance of these categories to religious moderation and national coexistence, not as an empirical field site. The article argues that al-samāḥah can function as an Islamic ethical-political vocabulary for defending religious freedom, inclusive citizenship, minority protection, and interfaith solidarity in plural societies.
