Abstract

Purpose: This community service initiative introduces an innovative solution combining venturi pump system technology and protein skimmer to enhance water quality, production efficiency, and sustainability in round tank-based white shrimp farming. The protein skimmer helps reduce dissolved organic matter and supports the maintenance of dissolved oxygen (DO) levels, both essential for shrimp survival. Methodology/approach: The approach includes participatory planning, Focus Group Discussions, the induction of venturi aerator and protein skimmer combination, socialization and technical training, technology demonstration (including water quality monitoring), partner assistance, and continuous monitoring and evaluation. The implementation partner is CV Nusantara Agro Mandiri, located in Tuban. Results/findings: The technology application led to an average increase in DO by 3 mg/L due to the venturi pump, and a reduction of total dissolved solids (TDS) by 400 mg/L with the help of the protein skimmer. These improvements supported better shrimp growth, with an average daily weight gain of 0.1 grams. Conclusion: Integrating venturi pump and protein skimmer technologies provides an effective means to improve water quality and enhance shrimp growth in round tank systems. This contributes to more stable and sustainable aquaculture environments. Limitations: Wider-scale implementation is required to test the technology under more diverse environmental and water quality conditions. Cost efficiency remains a key concern for broader adoption by farmers. Contribution: This technological combination offers a valuable strategy for improving cultivation environments and enhancing the productivity. Contribution to SDGs: This initiative supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Abstract

The Petung River supports domestic, agricultural, and economic activities in Pasuruan City but is subject to increasing anthropogenic pressures. This study aims to assess the river water quality status and formulate water pollution control strategies. Water quality was evaluated using the Pollution Index based on laboratory measurements conducted in April and June 2025. A SWOT analysis was performed by identifying internal and external factors through field observations and key informant interviews, followed by weighting and ranking to determine strategic priorities. The results indicate that the Petung River is predominantly classified as lightly polluted, with Pollution Index values ranging from 2.48 to 5.06, while one monitoring point in June 2025 reached a moderate pollution status. Although pH (6.75–7.80) and nitrate (1.15–3.40 mg/L) complied with Class II standards, total suspended solids, biological oxygen demand (6.49–16.01 mg/L), chemical oxygen demand, and total phosphate (0.27–3.03 mg/L) exceeded regulatory thresholds. The priority strategy is the establishment of communal wastewater treatment systems, supported by improved coordination, institutional capacity, community-based programs, and strengthened monitoring.

Abstract

Assessing temporal variations in river water quality is essential for understanding pollution dynamics and supporting effective water resource management, particularly in regions experiencing increasing anthropogenic pressure. This study investigates temporal trends in the Rejoso River, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, during 2022–2025 using the Pollution Index (PI) method. Water quality data were obtained from routine monitoring by the Environmental Agency and analyzed through compliance assessment, spatial distribution analysis, and non-parametric statistical methods, including the Mann–Kendall test and Sen’s slope estimator. The results show that several parameters, particularly biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), phosphate, and fecal coliform, frequently exceeded Class II water quality standards, indicating dominant organic and domestic pollution sources. Spatially, water quality declined from upstream to downstream, with the middle section identified as the most polluted due to cumulative anthropogenic activities such as domestic discharge and agricultural runoff. Temporal analysis revealed increasing trends in key pollution indicators, especially BOD and COD, suggesting a gradual increase in pollutant loads. The Pollution Index classified the river as predominantly lightly polluted, with a temporary improvement in 2024 followed by deterioration in 2025. These findings highlight increasing environmental pressure and the need for integrated water quality management strategies.

Abstract

Climate change poses severe threats to rural socio ecological systems, necessitating decentralized, community based climate action. While Indonesia’s Climate Village Program (ProKlim) serves as a primary local adaptation and mitigation policy, conventional evaluative methods rely heavily on descriptive scorecards, obscuring multidimensional dynamics and the systemic role of stakeholder partnerships. This study addresses these gaps by implementing an integrated evaluation framework that combines Sustainability Transition Theory, Collaborative Governance, and Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) via the modified Rapfish technique. We assessed 20 validated attributes across institutional, social, economic, and environmental dimensions using perceptual data from 30 systematically selected stakeholders involved in the Pentahelix partnership model in Wonocoyo Village, Trenggalek Regency. The multidimensional sustainability index scored 58.36 (moderately sustainable). At the dimensional level, institutional governance achieved the highest score (77.23, highly sustainable), followed by environmental quality (67.65) and social dynamics (52.14). Conversely, the economic dimension recorded a less sustainable score (36.42), reflecting systemic barriers in converting ecological actions into tangible financial welfare. Leverage analysis highlighted program monitoring and evaluation, community mutual cooperation (gotong royong), local economic benefits, and the continuity of environmental initiatives as critical anchor attributes. Goodness of fit metrics (Stress = 0.15 - 0.16; R2 = 0.90 - 0.93) and Monte Carlo simulations confirmed model stability. These findings establish that high institutional capability alone cannot guarantee localized socio ecological transformations without explicit economic feedback loops, offering scalable governance insights for national decentralized climate targets.
