Abstract

Lemuru is a potential fish in the Bali strait with 80% of the total catch. The fishing process is determined by the efficiency and effectiveness of improving the fishing area.  However, the lack of awareness of fishing areas by fishermen tend to be less optimal, waste of time and fuel. One of the alternatives is to use remote sensing data.  Fishing areas information can be obtained through oceanographic parameters. Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a are main factor determined fishing areas. This study aims to predict the fishing area of S. lemuru using GAM (Generalized Additive Model) analysis, the results of this model can show a range of oceanographic factors that significantly explain high fishing related to marine environmental parameters. Fishing data and coordinates were obtained from PPP Muncar, Banyuwangi on May 2021. Data used is from fishing data around two years in Bali strait. The optimum value of chlorophyll-a Lemuru fishing is at 0.1- 1.2 mg m-3 and sea surface temperatures around 27 - 31°C. According to GAM statistical modelling, the most appropriate fishing area was data combination among data fishing, sea surface temperature of AIC and CDE AIC around 23044.21, and CDE 8.18%.  The whole area of Bali strait is Lemuru fish distribution yet located in different areas each season such as west season at latitude (-8.26°)-(-8.59°) longitude (114.466°)-(114.449°), east season at latitude (-8.74°)-(-8.70°) longitude (114.299°)-(114.187°), while in transition season 1 at latitude (-8.50°)-(-8.78°) longitude (114.819°)-(115.070°) and season 2 at latitude (-8.27°)-(-8.56°) longitude (114.742°)-(114.819°

Abstract

Abstract

Some coast at south of East Java have been known as sea turtle nesting sites. One of that site is at Serang Beach, Regency of Panggungrejo, Blitar. Since a long time ago, Serang Beach is a favorite location for holiday because it has many beautiful and interesting spots. But, there is an educational spot, sea turtle conservation which not widely known by tourists. It shows that the publication about the existence of sea turtle still not enough. However, people must know about it because the population of sea turtle in nature is getting worse. The more people know about sea turtle will increasing the awareness to protect sea turtle. Therefore it is necessary to create an online publication during the global pandemic of COVID-19. The best solution is create a virtual tour about sea turtle at Serang Beach. Virtual tour is the best way to introduce the existence of sea turtle and give opportunities to return tourism activites which have been stucked for about two years because of COVID-19 pandemic. There are three main activities of this program including preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Preparation step includes literature studies, surveys to Serang Beach as program locations, permits and interviews with stakeholders, plotting and scripting session for virtual tourism videos. Implementation step includes video recording for virtual tour about sea turtle at Serang Beach, video editing, video publication on social media YouTube, and mentoring with partners through focus group discussions. Video virtual tour about sea turtle at Serang Beach on YouTube received positive responses from the viewers. The presence of virtual tour about sea turtle at Serang Beach increases people knowledge about sea turtle and encourage them to holiday at Serang Beach.

Abstract

Plastic is one of the most common pollutants found in marine waters. The direct negative impact of plastic waste on marine organisms is causing blockages in the digestive tract if eaten either intentionally or unintentionally. One of the efforts to reduce plastic waste is to build public awareness and readiness to actively participate in solving the problem of plastic waste. Therefore, Marine Science Study Program, FFMS, Universitas Brawijaya is dedicated to provide education about the dangers of plastic waste for aquatic communities and marine biota at a pioneering nature school for the Bajulmati Sea Turtle Conservation (BSTC) community in Bajulmati Beach, Malang Regency, East Java. In general, community service activities take place in online and offline manner. The educational methods given to students are a participatory and collaborative learning method, namely by providing an understanding of the material through class discussions and practical waste sorting activities in the field. The results of educational activities on the dangers of plastic waste can increase public knowledge and awareness, especially students at the BSTC nature school so that later it will have an effect on wiser plastic use behavior. Through this activity, it is expected that the resulted knowledge and awareness can foster a sense of love for the environment and can also affect a better use of plastic.

Abstract

Tulungagung reflects the typical conditions of southern coast of Java, which dominated bay small bays with thin layer of superficial mud sediments and bordered by hilly terrain. Mangrove distribution in Tulungagung located in there locations, Brumbun Beach, Gerangan Beach and Sine Beach. This research aimed to identify the forest structure, habitat sensitivity and completed with management plan in each location. Data collected includes vegetation structure, hydrooceanography, environmental pressure and anthropogenic activities. An interesting finding is that, despite its narrow areas (2,24 Ha), mangroves in Tulungagung have high species diversity (11 species of true mangrove includes Acanthus ebracteatus, Acanthus ilicifolius, Acrostichum aureum, Avicennia alba, Avicennia marina, Ceriops tagal, Excoecaria agallocha, Rhizopora apiculata, Rhizopora mucronata, Rhizopora stylosa dan Sonneratia alba). Rm and Rs stands dominated by >7m height with canopy cover range from 79,4-89,6%. Geomorphological settings and limited mud supply are the primary challenges for mangrove habitat in Tulungagung. On the other hand, observation conservation status and local stakeholders involvement show the need for improvement of mangrove management in Tulungagung coastal areas.

Abstract

Mangrove ecotourism development with an institutional approach aims to carry out management by uniting relevant institutions especially the community, government, and other stakeholders. Institutional capacity plays an important role in the development of potential-based areas. Therefore, this study aims to determine institutional capacity both organizational and individual capacity in the mangrove ecotourism development in the Lembar village of Lombok Barat Regency. The research method was carried out through a qualitative research approach with the determination of informants based on purposive sampling techniques. The results showed that the capacity of mangrove ecosystem management for the mangrove ecotourism development in the Lembar village area of West Lombok Regency at the level of community, individual resource managers and institutional was categorized as low. The dominant institutional capacity in the mangrove ecotourism development were the Marine and Fisheries Department of West Lombok Regency. This shows that good synergy has not yet been formed between institutions and communities so that the mangrove ecotourism development is unsustainable and temporal. Therefore, a joint commitment is needed in increasing the strengthening of institutional capacity sustainably so that there is good synergy between the government, the government and the private sector, the government and the community, and between other stakeholders.

Abstract

Southern Waters of Java Island are 573 fisheries management zones, the Big Eye Tuna (Thunnus obesus) commodity is one of fish that has high economic value. There are oceanographic factors affect fish distribution of Big Eye Tuna (Thunnus obesus) such as sea surface temperature, chlorophyll-a, and depth. The data research of Big Eye Tuna fishing zone was obtained from PPSC with data description were year, month, day, number of trips, and number of fish caught around 2018-2019. Oceanographic data used from citra satellite Aqua MODIS for sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a, and citra satellite ETOPO-1 for depth, by using GAM statistical analysis by looking at the lowest AIC value and the largest CDE value of 7 combined models of oceanographic parameters. The results obtained from statistical analysis using the GAM which was very influential in determining the potential zone for the fishing of Big Eye Tuna (Thunnus obesus) showed that a combination of sea surface temperature + chlorophyll - a + depth with an AIC value of 28840.02 and CDE of 11.1%, with the results Oceanographic parameters optimum sea surface temperature was 25 ° C- 30 ° C, for chlorophyll - a 0.08 - 0.30 mg / m3, and for an average depth of 3500m. The depth parameter had a less positive influence because the Cilacap fishermen used FADs for the fishing area of Big Eye Tuna. The distribution area of Big Eye Tuna (Thunnus obesus) in the Southern of Java Island is at latitude (-7.3 °) - (-14.83 °) and longitude 102 ° - 115.25 °.
