Abstract

This community service program was implemented in Matabubu Village, Poasia District, Kendari City, with a focus on optimizing home yard utilization as a strategy to strengthen household food self-sufficiency. The main problems addressed were the underutilization of home yards and the high vulnerability of household income, particularly among families whose livelihoods depend on the informal sector. The program was carried out over four weeks using a participatory, action-research-based approach involving housewives and women’s community group members as key actors. The activities consisted of an initial site survey, group discussions, training on vegetable cultivation techniques, seedling preparation, yard layout design, planting, mentoring on crop maintenance, and evaluation. The results indicate an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in managing their home yards, including selecting locally suitable crops and applying simple practices such as watering, fertilizing, and basic pest management. Previously unused or ornamental yards were transformed into small vegetable gardens that provided additional food sources for families and encouraged the development of household-level economic initiatives. Overall, the program effectively contributed to improving household food security, enhancing community awareness, and reducing economic vulnerability through the utilization of local yard resources in Matabubu Village.

Abstract

Kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain kemasan inovatif sebagai strategi peningkatan daya saing produk UMKM di Kelurahan Matabubu. UMKM di wilayah ini memiliki potensi produk lokal yang cukup beragam, namun pemanfaatan desain kemasan yang menarik, informatif, dan sesuai standar pemasaran masih terbatas. Melalui pendekatan partisipatif, tim KKN melakukan observasi kebutuhan, pelatihan desain, serta pendampingan dalam pembuatan prototype kemasan bagi pelaku UMKM. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman pelaku UMKM terhadap pentingnya desain kemasan dalam menarik konsumen serta memperluas jangkauan pemasaran. Beberapa produk telah berhasil memperoleh desain kemasan baru yang lebih modern, fungsional, dan memiliki identitas visual yang kuat. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah berkelanjutan dalam memperkuat branding dan daya saing produk lokal Kelurahan Matabubu serta mendorong inovasi dalam pengembangan usaha masyarakat.
